INDIANAPOLIS -- Last Sunday's Pro Bowl was a sloppily-played joke of a game that was ripped by fans and the media. Aaron Rodgers came out and said some of his NFC teammates should be "embarrassed" by the way they played. LeSean McCoy told us that he was "one of those guys" who didn't try.

Which may explain why Roger Goodell said on Sunday morning that the NFL is "considering eliminating" the Pro Bowl.

Latest from the Super Bowl

"I really didn't think that was the kind of football that we want to be demonstrating for our fans," Goodell said on Mike and Mike Sunday morning. "And you heard it from the fans. The fans were actively booing in the stands. They didn't like what they were seeing."

At the very least, Goodell said, something's going to change or the game will go away.

"We're either going to have to improve the quality of what we're doing in the Pro Bowl or consider other changes or even considering eliminating the game if that's the kind of quality game we're going to provide," Goodell said. "I know players love to be in Hawaii but we have to start with the quality of what we're doing.

"If the fans are responding negatively to what we're doing, we better listen. And that was my message."

Say whatever you want about Goodell (and if you're a Steelers fan, you'll probably say a lot), but the guy knows how to make the game of football more popular. If getting rid of the Pro Bowl does that, then Goodell won't hesitate to do so.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

It can't really even be considered the "best of the best"
if the players in the Superbowl don't even participate. Undecided

Bub Bye, Pro bowl! Cry You've been voted off the Island (Hawaii)

What they should do, instead of playing a game which is meaningless, keep it as the kick off to SuperBowl week but perhaps just make it a reward ceramony where the SuperBowl is being held where they name the All-Stars of the league and give out other rewards like rookie of the year, comeback player of the year, coach of the year and so on. That way they don't have to worry about injuries and people not playing a ProBowl as well. Also make it the same day where they enshrine the new Hall of Famers as well. Having it during the summer with the first exhibition game is dumb, it will bring more attention during SuperBowl week. They can call it the All-Pro and Hall of Fame Weekend.

Always has been a stupid game to play.  There is NO WAY that I would play in the game if I was a player, because, it is NOT worth the chance to get hurt and LOSE your contract.

pre season games and the pro bowl fall in to the same category. NO ONE CARES. pro bowl should be scrapped and each team should play 2 scrimmages that are free to the fans.

Goodell: NFL 'considering eliminating' Pro Bowl

"Back when players were players and not clowns the pro bowl was taken seriously and the cast played for pride, these jokers today only care about the cash and treating their entourage to a free be to Hawaii."

The average NFL players has a much shorter lifespan than most of the population and a lifetime of aches from injuries and wear and tear and you want them to do extra for not much more money? It's a risk to their career.

So I ask you: Would you risk your entire career while doing something to get a small bonus from your employer? For pride? I wouldn't. I have to put food on the table. So do these guys. This money they're making needs to last them a lifetime.

And I bet you a lot of those players who did it for pride would rather have today's money and not have played unnecessary extra games.

Let's see. No stunting or blitzing is allowed on defense, and Goodell wonders why the game is a joke and most players and fans view it as a joke? You force the players to go out and play a half-ass style, and wonder why you get a half-ass attitude from the players and fans?

I would like to see the pro bowl be a bit more competetive but honestly it's just awesome to see all of the all stars together playing in one game. I don't think they should eliminate the probowl but maybe change it up completely and possibly make it a skills competition only? Allow the stars to align and put them in a situation to where they are willing to be competetive because their health isn't at risk.
