Pawngo made it rain Butterfingers. (Twitter.com)
By Will Brinson

Wes Welker took the Patriots loss harder than anyone else, primarily because he blamed himself for "The Drop" (that's what they're calling it in Boston now, apparently).

So he's probably not going to take a stunt from Pawngo very well: the Denver-based pawn shop company decided to dump thousands of Butterfingers candy bars in Boston's Copley Square with a note.

"Thank you Wes Welker," the note read.

So, yeah, it really makes no sense. We get the "joke," but why are they thanking Welker? Because they got to give away candy? Because the Denver-based Broncos beat the Giants for the Super Bowl? Perhaps it's because their PR firm, 5W Public Relations, was in charge of the stunt and resides in New York?

Maybe that's the logic here, but why wouldn't they sign the note from 5W Public Relations? Did Pawngo authorize this? Why did Pawngo authorize this? It's not like by goofily burning Boston-area sports fans they're going to get any business in New England.

And it's not like New Yorkers, in a rush to appreciate someone being rude, are suddenly only going to do their pawn shopping at Pawngo.

Pawngo CEO Todd Hills released a statement where he said he "thought Boston fans might at least get a laugh out of it."

HaHA! Sigh. Sorry, Todd. Now Pawngo is just "that annoying company who tried to make Boston sports fans mad by giving them free candy." Fortunately they were fined by the city for commercial dumping.

And were it not for Gisele's ridiculous comments, it'd be the single dumbest thing anyone's said/done regarding Welker's drop.

I find this prank hilarious!  Brinson sounds like Gisele in this article.  I guess everyone's still in love with the Patsies and it's too soon to take shots at them...

Giants1: I couldn't disagree more!  That comment was based off of one thing- being a victim of your own success!!  The pass was NOT needed on the outside shoulder. I f he hit him scquare in the numbers, he catches it (presumably) and gets immediately tackled. There was enough of a window to throw it in.  As a Giant fan, you should be appreciaitve that Brady had gotten hurt and became a little off target in the 4th. He had rattled 16 off in a row. As a fan of the Patriots, we have endured Brady's inaccuracy issue this season. Back when they lsot to PITT and NYG, his shoulder was giving him trouble and he was floating passes to the left.  Guess where that pass was Sunday night?!  to the left...

Ha-ha pawngo, I`m sure Wes & his hot Hooters gal pal are crying on some beach.  It`s just a game that makes them very rich.  Donate the $ to a charity and make a difference.

Wrong, every analyst has said the pass was properly over the back shoulder. It was 2-3 feet too far back, but still very catchable. A much easier catch than the one Manningham made. That's why Welker felt so bad about it even before all the flack. But again, while a pro receiver is expected to make that catch, pro receivers drop easier balls than that all the time. Nobody is perfect. The Pats aren't in the game without Welker's contributions all year, as Brady has reminded everyone more than once now.

Most receivers in the NFL are not making that catch.  The pass was thrown over the wrong shoulder and Welker had to leave his feet in an attempt to make the catch.

I agree with the previous poster that Wes Welker does not deserve a goat label.  He's right the pass (while catchable) was less than perfect and Wes made a strong effort to come up with the ball.  It was a tough catch to make.  We forget sometimes that these guys are men and not machines, while they routinely make the hard seem pedestrian we often forget how tough it is to play football at such a high level.

When it comes to a team sport its tough to label any one person or any one play the goat.  If you go back play by play you could find hundreds of things happening that if they'd happened a little different the outcome would have been different.  For some reason as the public we simply tend to lock onto the most obvious.  I feel for Wes as I have been both the hero and the goat at different times.  Its much more fun to be the hero, but it just doesn't always work out that way.

I disagree with the previous poster on the practical joke, I think it was hilarious!  I know it stings for the Patriots and their fans (I was rooting for the Pats) and the joke may have been played while the wounds are too fresh but hey its stuff like that, that makes sports great.  A little light hearted ribbing and rivalry is what makes it fun.  Might have been better if dropped in Times Square versus Boston, but still funny nonetheless.  Kudo's to whomever thought of it.

The guy is a great receiver. Yes, he had a bad drop in the SB...the pass wasn't perfect, but a pro receiver is expected to make that catch. That said, nobody is perfect, and EVERY athlete, even the top professionals, will fail from time-to-time. The Pats wouldn't have made it to that game if not for Welker, as Tom Brady pointed out.
