Welker, Boston pranked by dumped Butterfingers

Pawngo made it rain Butterfingers. (Twitter.com)
By Will Brinson

Wes Welker took the Patriots loss harder than anyone else, primarily because he blamed himself for "The Drop" (that's what they're calling it in Boston now, apparently).

So he's probably not going to take a stunt from Pawngo very well: the Denver-based pawn shop company decided to dump thousands of Butterfingers candy bars in Boston's Copley Square with a note.

"Thank you Wes Welker," the note read.

So, yeah, it really makes no sense. We get the "joke," but why are they thanking Welker? Because they got to give away candy? Because the Denver-based Broncos beat the Giants for the Super Bowl? Perhaps it's because their PR firm, 5W Public Relations, was in charge of the stunt and resides in New York?

Maybe that's the logic here, but why wouldn't they sign the note from 5W Public Relations? Did Pawngo authorize this? Why did Pawngo authorize this? It's not like by goofily burning Boston-area sports fans they're going to get any business in New England.

And it's not like New Yorkers, in a rush to appreciate someone being rude, are suddenly only going to do their pawn shopping at Pawngo.

Pawngo CEO Todd Hills released a statement where he said he "thought Boston fans might at least get a laugh out of it."

HaHA! Sigh. Sorry, Todd. Now Pawngo is just "that annoying company who tried to make Boston sports fans mad by giving them free candy." Fortunately they were fined by the city for commercial dumping.

And were it not for Gisele's ridiculous comments, it'd be the single dumbest thing anyone's said/done regarding Welker's drop.

The WELKER drop joins a long list of plays that has doomed the AFC east against the NFC east in the superbowl. (8-2 in favor of NFC East)  This is just my opinion but you can put that drop right up there with the Norwood Miss.  (Based the assumption that if welker makes the catch with the pats up 2, they probably win the game.)

Yeah he dropped it when he should have caught it and I know he gets paid to make those kind of catches but how Tom Brady escape any blame in this? He threw a high back shoulder pass to wide open 5'9 receiver. He gets paid a lot more to throw that pass than Welker does to catch it. I know it hit his hands and when it hits your palms you catch it but Brady could have thrown a better pass. He was off that entire 4th quarter. Some of those throws were questionable.

I'm not a fan of, nor do I dislike any of the teams invovled.  That said I thought it was kind of funny.  Lighten up a little bit wow.

Pretty humurous prank for a second but seriously any Patriots fan who is turning on Wes Welker or Tom Brady right now is a tool and not a true fan. These two guys are the reason the Patriots are what they are... a winning franchise.  Gronkowski had an amazing year this season which equals 1 great season.  Brady has been doing this since 2001 and Welker I want to say the last 4 seasons. You need to stick by your team. Brady didn't throw a great pass and Welker should have caught it. 50/50 blame by your 2 best players. GET OVER IT!!!

I am a Raiders fan and when Rich Gannon threw 5 INT's in uper Bowl XXXVII yes it was frustrating. I didn't blame the game on him. Tampa Bay had the best defense by far that year and our coach who invented the offense Oakland ran. It was a crappy matchup for Oakland and Callahan should have switched it up a bit to disguise plays. Plus Gannon was the MVP of the NFL in 2002. He was the reason we even made it to the Super Bowl and was Oakland's best QB since Plunkett (IMO better passer then Plunkett.)

Clever prank but Pats fans get over the loss and stop being babys.

To Derek Sutton:

Nothing pisses me off than a sore loser fan putting another fanbase down.  I don't know what coverage you were watching, but there were more than a million people at the parade.  As for NYC being a scrummy city...spoken like a true jealous jerk.  You most obviously haven't been here, or lived here long enough to experience all the good and bad that the city has.  You haven't ridden the subway during rush hour, or waited in the rain trying to catch a cab, or gone to MSG, yankee, stadium, the MET, MoMa, or anything else we have.  All you do is sulk in your basement and bash people and a city you know nothing about.

One of the many reasons that Boston fans suck. Normally, I'm not thrilled when any New York team wins anything, but since its Boston and their unbelievably arrogant, whiny fans, ITS ALL GOOD!
