Jacobs: Gisele needs to 'be cute and shut up'

Jacobs and Gisele are probs not BFFs. (AP)

It was really only a matter of time until someone on a football team got mad at Gisele Bundchen for her comments about Tom Brady's inability to catch his own bleeping passes. But no one expected it to be a member of the Giants.

Latest NFL News, Notes

It was though -- Brandon Jacobs came out and, according to the New York Post's Brian Costello, had some words for Mrs. Brady.

"She needs to continue to be cute and shut up," Jacobs said, when asked about Gisele's comments.

Soooooo. I guess we know where Jacobs won't ever be playing, huh? Actually, although Jacobs comments are technically "rude," and certainly out of line, it's his delivery -- and not the message -- that needs tweaking. He just could've phrased things better, like his teammate Osi Umenyiora.

"That’s her husband," Umenyiora said. "I mean she’s supposed to stay out of things like that. But at the end of the day that’s their relationship and she has the right to say whatever she wants to."

That's the thing; it's not like this is a "women have their place" issue, although Jacobs makes it sound that way with his comments. It's just a "don't create a rift between your husband the quarterback and the rest of the team by screaming about how bad they suck to fans and reporters" thing.

It doesn't do anyone any good for the wife of the quarterback to come out and take shots at the quarterback's targets, since it really only serves to recreate a scene out of a sports movie. The results are, almost always, a rift between the quarterback and his teammates.

Except there's usually a few more games to sort their issues out and win the big game.

Zeppelin, I agree with you that people can say what ever they want but I disagree with you about Gisele. This woman probably know's more about football then most guys in a bar. The girl just happens to be high profile, did you see the way the press hounded her after the game. I do understand she is a celebrity and needs to deal with it but give me a break, they are cursing and yelling at her. Don't we all all have a breaking point? People seem to have a short term memory when it comes to the Giants, their defense was good.

Hmmm... a woman (and wife, no less) talking crap about sports - especially a sport they don't/can't play. Yeah, this is news.

I'll call the NYT the next time my wife complains that the entire sport of football is a joke because "they keep running up the middle" and not the outside every time. She also thinks they should "throw it as far as they can" each time.  :)

Let's chalk this up to Gisele being one of the hottest chicks ever and give her a pass. Heck, let's hope she was drinking while talking smack as it would give me an ever better mental image (talks dirty while drunk!).

No but ... perhaps you should try using the actual word in my comment which is "beyotch" and I'm quite certain that you not only know what it means but that it has been directed at you on several occasions.

Jacobs: Gisele needs to 'be cute and shut up'

We all know how this went down.  Some jerk of a reporter asked him about the Gisele comments and he gave his opinion.  He has a right to say that.  Just like we have a right to say the ball Brady threw to Welker was a good ball (if Wes was a prototypical NFL reciever he would have been tall enough to catch it) or if it was a poorly thrown ball and Wes is off the hook. Its all an opinion.  Should Gisele keep her mouth shut about things not concerning her.  Yes.  Should she protect her husband. Yes.  Its a fine line.

Jacobs crossed the line.  If someone told my wife to shut up I'd pop 'em one.  Bet he would do the same.
