Not breaking news: Michael Vick is an unpopular athlete when it comes to public polling. This has been true since Vick went to jail for dogfighting and it remains true to this day. But it's a bit surprising to see Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh climbing the charts (sliding the chutes?) of the most unpopular athletes in the world.

According to a survey done by Nielson and published by Forbes, Suh checks in as the fourth-least-liked athlete in the world, behind only Vick, Tiger Woods and Plaxico Burress.

Latest NFL News, Notes

It's not entirely shocking that Suh would end up on this list. He's easily recognizable as the second-overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft and someone who has a pile of endorsements. He also stepped on an opponent on a nationally-televised Thanksgiving Day game against the Packers and drew a two-game suspension.

He's regarded in some corners as "dirty" and in many places as a "bad boy" of the NFL, regardless of whether or not that's accurate. According to Forbes, Suh's lack of popularity is a total 180-degree turn, as he was on the list of most popular athletes just four months ago.

"He went from being so popular to being a pariah in one season," says Stephen Master, VP of Sports for Nielson.

Fortunately for Suh, an incident-free 2012 will go a long way towards cleaning up his image. Guys like Plaxico and Vick, who served actual prison time, as well as Tiger, who suffered through a public infidelity scandal the likes of which we've never seen, have a much higher hill to climb if they want to regain their popularity among the general populace.

Dropping out of the top-10 most-hated list from the NFL this time around? Al Davis (passed away), Jerry Jones (must have become sympathetic with the Cowboys missing the playoffs?), Ben Roethlisberger (was never actually charged?) and Randy Moss (retired).

The lesson as always? Time heals all wounds. Some times it just takes longer for some people.

Suh, Vick, Plax highlight most-disliked athletes

Why is Plax disliked?  He's not relevant in any way, like T.O or Randy Moss (at the end of his career).

As other posters said, every fan base in the US would love to have Suh on their D-line.   And I find it interesting that Harrison wasn't on the list (I like him pesonally).  As for Vick, I hope they enjoy their overhyped, waaaaaaaay over paid pariah.

"regardless of whether or not that's accurate"

Of course it's accurate!  Here's a guy who makes a point to make nice with the commish and assure him that all of his bad behavior is in the past.  Then, a couple of weeks later, he goes out and kicks an opponent while he's down during one of the most-watched games of the year on Turkey Day.  The public can smell BS from a mile away and this guy is as dirty as they come.  His biggest problem is that he's not very good at hiding it (like some players from the NFL's past).

Suh, Vick, Plax highlight most-disliked athletes

Let's get something straight. Suh is not "regarded in some corners" as a dirty player; he was voted the DIRTIEST player in the NFL by his PEERS, the other NFL players. He cheap shots QB's, stomps on people and, like a lot of Lions (the dirtiest TEAM in the NFL) players, he likes to grab other players by the helmet and pull & twist.

Vick, Woods and Burress are largely disliked for their actions OFF the field. Suh is a jerk both on AND off the field. And then he goes on camera, in a press conference , and LIES right to the people. He was "trying to gain his balance?" when he stomped on that Packer. Does he think we'll believe him or our own eyes? He must think we're stupid. That helps to fuel the dislike for him.

He has serious issues and he's kidding himself if he thinks other people do not see this. And SHAME on the network that hired him to comment at halftime.  Why would you choose such an unpopular d-bag to come on your show? Who really cares what he thinks?

Finally, I do not see Suh all over the TV with a PILE of endorsements. That said, I can't think of one product he pitches, so he's not even that good at it. I can't wait until next season when opposing linemen do what they can to prod this idiot into more bad decisions. Yep, there's more suspensions in the future for Ndamukong Tool.

Suh, Vick, Plax highlight most-disliked athletes

If you wanna be pretentious about your opinion of Suh, you go live it.  Acting self-righteous about some of his short-sighted decisions makes no sense.  Nobody is perfect matey joe louis.  Some guys are still doing dumb things at 25, I don't know where the know-it-all judgement is coming from.  It is easy to make him a bad guy when you didn't do any of that at your own age.

Some 25 year olds just do dumb thing at times, with those raging hormones and all.  Not everyone can be a classy QB sitting back away from the actual play playing hurt with their booboos.  That sure is easy times as a QB these days, staying classy thanks to lenient NFL rules and all which keep your from the play.  People are dumb, get over it.
