Harrison: Gronkowski 'disrespected himself'

Gronkowski was a maniac on the floor. Harrison did not approve. (Ryan Wilson, CBSSports.com)

By Ryan Wilson

There was plenty of blame to go around In the hours and days following the Patriots loss to the Giants in Super Bowl XLVI. For the most part, it seemed like a collective knee-jerk reaction from media and fans (and family members) not accustomed to losing. Of course, this is what happens when the hometown team wins three Super Bowls in five seasons and Tom Brady begins his postseason career by going 10-0.

NFL Offseason Begins

Depending on your perspective, any number of people were at fault for the outcome: Brady, Wes Welker, Bill Belichick, the defense and tight end Rob Gronkowski, who was limited by a high-ankle sprain.

But it wasn't Gronkowski's lack of production, or even that he didn't battle Giants linebacker Chase Blackburn for a Brady arm punt that became an interception that upset his critics. It was his after-game exploits that got some folks worked into a lather.

In case you missed it, Gronkowski, along with teammate Matt Light, were spotted dancing (topless, no less!) at an Super Bowl party hours after the game.

Scandalous, we know.

(If the sarcasm dripping off that last sentence isn't obvious enough, we'll just repeat what we said on the Pick-6 Podcast: what's Gronkowski supposed to do? Sit in his room and cry himself to sleep? Will that make him a better player for the Pats' next game in six months? No? So what's the problem then?)

This makes no difference to NBC analyst and former Patriots safety Rodney Harrison, who is very upset with Gronk's decision to gyrate his hips after a loss.

“I guarantee you this, if Willie McGinest, Tedy Bruschi, Larry Izzo, Richard Seymour or myself had been at that party, [Gronkowski] probably would have got his head rung,” Harrison told ESPN 1000 in Chicago (via PFT). “There’s no reason for that to happen.”

Oh god. Nothing like an old-timer invoking old times. Yes, Rodney, we know. You had to walk 10 miles to practice, uphill each way, you didn't have shoes and it always snowed.

(Worth mentioning: back in September, the aforementioned Bruschi happily called out Chad Ochocinco for tweeting. We have yet to hear his mock outrage over Gronkowski blowing off steam early Monday morning.)

Harrison wasn't done.

“When we lost the Super Bowl, any of my Super Bowl losses, I was so devastated the last thing I ever wanted to do was party, let alone dance or take off your shirt,” Harrison said. “It’s just immaturity. It’s not right. He made a mistake and I’m sure he feels absolutely stupid about it at this point. There’s a time and place for everything.”

Rodney's right: there is a time and place for everything. Time: after the season is over -- check. Place: party where music is played and dancing is encouraged -- check.

This is almost as ridiculous as Gronkowki having to apologize for having his picture taken with a porn star. Almost.

Harrison: Gronkowski 'disrespected himself'

Harrison is 100% right...Gronk needs to be on the trainers office getting ready for next season and watching film.. Not out drinking and partying like a college kid. His actions are embarrassing...it took me 2 weeks to get over the fact the 49ers lost...and got cheated out of the game by bad calls...( Bradshaw fumble with 2 min left ) If I had the chance to play professional sports I would give up that party lifestyle in order to be THE BEST IN THE WORLD...plus he hangs out like with ripper pornstars( even more embarrassing ) Why can't guys be more like Jerry Rice?

Harrison: Gronkowski 'disrespected himself'

Rodney Harrison is way too full of himself.  Gronk is young & kids like to have fun.  Harrison is ancient & no longer a Patriot.

Besides, I can picture Harrison, Bruschi, Izzo etc showing up at a party w/ sour faces looking for teammates having too much fun so they can "haze" them.  Really mature, Rod.

Fortunately, the Super Bowl changes networks every year, so we won't see so much of Harrison the next few years...or hopefully ever

Harrison: Gronkowski 'disrespected himself'

Uncle Tedy is lucky Ocho didn't B$tch slap his greater than thou arse.  And Gronk was hot and just testing out his ankle.  Harrison is the last person who should talk about integrity.  He enjoyed hitting many a defenseless player as hard as he could and thought he was a bad arse.

The fact is that you know you're going to take at least some criticism if you do what Gronkowski did.  All we heard in the two week buildup to the SB was about how effective Gronk would be with that high ankle sprain.  He was definitely limited in the game and to see him dancing around hours after the game was bound to irritate people.  I really don't care about what he did after the game, but the problem I have is that this blogger, Ryan Wilson, clearly comes off as a big Gronk fan and has blinders on towards any criticism of Gronk.  Yet I'll bet he would be the first in line to crucify the guy if it was LeBron James, Jay Cutler, Randy Moss, or any of the host of other media whipping boys.

If he apologized for the porn star thing, he definitely has to apologize for this.

Is the media up there really that ridiculous?  I see absolutley nothing wrong with either incident, and I'm someone who kills himself to find fault with anything the Pats do.  Holy cow, I know a stripper, does that mean that I'm an evil person??  I got trashed and had a great time after losing $50 on the golf course a couple of weeks ago.  I would be a miserable failure in Boston...

Richard Seymour is the only one on that list who would have a shot.

Gronk would crush him.

“I guarantee you this, if Willie McGinest, Tedy Bruschi, Larry Izzo,  or myself had been at that party, [Gronkowski] probably would have got his head rung,” - Rodney Harrison.

REALLY, RODNEY? You're ******* a joke and a half for opening your big mouth. And you say "there's no reason for that to happen?" There was no reason for a 3rd tier WR to catch that one-handed helmet grab on you in your last super bowl either, was there buster? And just for the record, I got Gronk against all five of you and the four other bozos you mentioned. Y'all wouldn't have done a **** thing to Gronk and you know it, loudmouth. Then you say "there's a time and place for everything." You go* d*** right there is. The SUPER BOWL AFTER PARTY is one of them. Do you have any idea how much ***** was at that party? So the Pats lost. Big deal. It ain't the end of the world. I love football but dang! If I lost the super bowl, do you know what would make me feel better? You guessed it, *****! And you know where the best place is to find ***** after the super bowl, Rodney? You guessed it, the after super bowl party. Stop hating. Just because you're married and miserable, Gronk has to follow your sorry *** lead? Get the **** outta here with that ****. Gronk to me is what football used to be about before you and your bozos came along and messed up the game for everybody. Leave Gronk alone. You know why he was partying like a rock star? BECAUSE HE CAN! And do me favor. Instaed of hating on Gronk in some shabby ESPN roach-ridden studio, come to Oakland and take your "Fat Albert" looking nose tackle back to New England. How the **** did he make the Pro-Bowl this year? And another thing. You and coach Dungy suck on sunday night Football. When the **** is your contract up? To Grokstar, do NOT worry about these simple-minded simpletons. You can party butt-naked and hit every porn star from here to Kalamazoo! You got what Rodney will never have; character! Disrespected yourself, my ***! You're a **** hero and Rodney can't stand it, the dirty bum!

What's worse dancing at a post Super Bowl party or taking out Trent Green's knee in a meaningless pre season game?
