With Vikings player personnel director George Paton’s decision to forgo the Rams general manager position, which earned him a promotion to assistant general manager in Minnesota, St. Louis instead has picked  Falcons personnel man Les Snead instead to be the next St. Louis GM.

As the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports, the Rams are expected to officially announce Snead on Monday.

Rams' latest news
Snead has spent the past 13 years in Atlanta and the last three as the director of player personnel, where he oversaw Atlanta’s pro and college scouting. Snead first interviewed with Rams owner Stan Kroenke in January, and then again this month after coach Jeff Fisher was hired.

The two finalists were expected to meet again with Kroenke this weekend, but Paton decided to return to Minnesota.

"George has been an integral part of our personnel department since he arrived in 2007," Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said, via the team's website, Saturday. "His work ethic, leadership, professionalism and keen eye for identifying talented football players will continue to be a major asset for our organization as we take on the challenges of competing in the NFC North and winning the Super Bowl."

CBSSports.com’s Pete Prisco likes the Rams move, calling Snead a grinder and writing that Fisher “will lean heavily on Snead” because Fisher is “smart that way.”

Anyone is better than the fool we had before.  I see good things happening for the rams in the years to come.  If the RAMS can truly get luck this Draft and get a few extra picks I don't see why the RAMS can't do a complete 360 and make the playoffs in 2012

Jeff Fisher is probably the best coach in the league. He deserves to have a good GM. He sure didn't have an owner in Tennessee that was any good. He could have won a super bowl if Bud Adams had stayed out of the way. Could have had Cutler, but NO he had to draft Vince Young. I'm glad he's got a chance to win in St. Louis. Let him make all the moves and you've got a winner. He deserves to coach for a good GM, Owner, in a great city.....

If Sneed can pull off a trade with Cleveland or Washington and get extra draft picks and maybe Blackmon then he would have a great start as G.M.

Yes the Rams did it backwards, but that was their plan from the start. To hire a head coach, and then find a GM who can work with the head coach. After all the last time the Rams did it the right way, when they hired Billy Devaney as GM and then got Spags in as head coach, that failed. So, maybe doing it backwards can work better.

The Rams do things backwards.  Usually a team hires a GM and he hires his people.  The Rams hire a coach and then the coach helps pick the GM.  You should have just let Fisher be the GM too.
I agree that the Rams did it backwards, normal when the coach is hired before the GM it don't end good for the coach. But there a chance that the Rams hired a GM that will work good with Fisher, only time will tell.

Fisher has never been a GM or worked in the front office, beside Fisher has a hard enough Job just being coach.
