Ahmad Bradshaw takes shot at Tony Romo

Romo

BradshawBy Josh Katzowitz

Just because Tony Romo is coming off another solid season and shrugged off so many of the previous expectations/assumptions about his toughness and ability to play in the clutch, that doesn’t mean we can’t continue to find his fellow colleagues to rip him whenever they get the chance.

I mean, the guy played with a punctured lung (and won!)and then, at the end of the season, he played with a bad hand, but hell, that apparently didn’t really satisfy anybody.

In fact, Romo started every game this season despite a number of ailments and obstacles. Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw was not so impressed.

Bradshaw, coming off his game-winning Super Bowl XLVI touchdown, was asked on the NFL Network if the Cowboys could ever win a Super Bowl with Romo as the starting quarterback. Bradshaw, predictably, doesn’t believe in Romo.

Dallas' quarterbacks
“You know what, man, I don’t see it happening,” Bradshaw said. “I don’t think they believe it, and they’re America’s team.

“It all comes in together. If the fans don’t believe it, the team doesn’t. They’re kinda doubtful with Romo.”

While I'm not sure Bradshaw's reasoning makes sense (since when do players care what fans think about their teammates?), this also isn’t the first time this year a Giants running back has criticized Romo. You might recall Brandon Jacobs saying this in October: “[Eli Manning] is definitely a 100 percent better quarterback than Tony Romo. No question.”

Also criticizing Romo this year? Redskins tight end Chris Cooley and NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders (though Romo also had a pretty big backer (literally and figuratively) in Dirk Nowitzki).

Surprisingly, not everybody, especially those in the Cowboys organization, agrees with Bradshaw (and Jacobs).

“I thought Romo was competing at a level that would’ve given us that opportunity but the rest of us need to play better and get better before we can really gel the way the Giants are,” Jones said at the Senior Bowl last month.

And when CBSSports.com’s Will Brinson caught up with Dallas running back DeMarco Murray during Super Bowl week, Murray defended Romo.

"One week he's a hero, the next week he's not,” Murray said. That's just the way it is with the Dallas Cowboys. We're used to it, we love it and we wouldn't want any one else leading our team."

Obviously, Romo is used to hearing people bash him for a variety of reasons. He tries to turn the other cheek. But he also understands why his vast array of critics say what they do.

"It's just an easy thing to say until you win the Super Bowl," Romo said in November. "Until then any time you lose a game it's a big game. But if you win, then it really wasn't that big of a game. That just goes with the territory."

But from a guy who just won the Super Bowl, Bradshaw’s words can’t feel so good to Romo.

to bibobt:  I agree with lot of what you say.

As for the Giants' players, Victor Cruz will certainly get the money and continue to play for the Giants.  As for Mario Manningham, some other team will offer him big bucks, probably more than he deserves, as he is somewhat of an average receiver.  And the RBs, it looks like Jacobs will be gone.  He's a good RB at times, but he also runs his mouth off alot more than he should and more than most Giants players.  Also, the Giants are not a team to tolerate players who bad-mouth or trash talk too much.  The organization prefers more "class-act" players.  Prime example is Jeremy Shockey.  He was talented, but a big bad-mouth talker, and in particular to Eli, so after their Super Bowl win, they simply said "later man, we don't need your kind in this organization."  Jerry Reese (GM) has filled in Ernie Accorsi's shoes very nicely.  And he will continue to recruit, draft, trade and pick up free agents that will only to add to the success of the Giants organization.

IN RESPONSE TO "MOTHERTRUCKER69":

Following the Giants Super Bowl win four years ago, the Giants were a JUGGERNAUT!  Indisputably, they were a force to be reckoned with and they crushed anything in their path --- until, Plaxico foolishly carried a gun illegally into a night club and shot himself in the leg.  Only then, did they collapse.  They did not fall on their faces by talking alot of "shit" as you say.  Perhaps you can explain what you mean.  But, frankly, you make no sense at all.  Bradshaw was asked a question, and he simply answered it honestly - it was his opinion.  Don't make it more than that.  I'm commenting on facts, and you are making comments on your emotions.  Your feelings are getting in the way of your common sense.

Whoa, der721!   What in the world are you talking about "wishing a serious injury on someone?"

There was NEVER any mention of wishing a serious injury on anyone in this article.  So der721...  it sounds as if YOU really have no clue at this time.

Please read news articles more carefully (and re-read this won slowly....) then when you finally COMPREHEND it, your can comment and maybe make some sense.

Ahmad Bradshaw takes shot at Tony Romo

Hey papa jay jay.  You say the Giants sucked all season. Didn't they beat your Cowgirls twice? So what does that say for Dallas?  Oh yeah and how many playoff games have the Cowgirls won in the past 15 or so years? One I believe.  The Giants had 3 plus a Superbowl victory in the past month. Don't look now but your ignorance is showing.

Ahmad Bradshaw takes shot at Tony Romo

Look I love Tony Romo and no matter what he does he gets critisized for it . He wasn't the blame for the latter part of our season it was the defense he gave up 2 games early in the season we recovered from that . Bradshaw is an Idiot who shouldn't have been able to speak nevermind be on NFL network he was destined to put his foot in his mouth. Next yr will tell the story of how good Romo is we will see. But bradshaw keep your big mouth shut Go Cowboys. Giants got hot otherwise they sucked all season they definitely were not the best team in the NFC nevermind the NFL but they got hot. plain and simple.

Bradshaw's shot at Romo prompts AF's opinion

Not sure where Zaber is coming from or trying to go?
The Giants are Super Bowl Champs again for a reason.  The Giants dealt with a similar situation that Dallas is currently trying to live/play/deal with.
Everybody remembers Kerry Collins. Collins was then to the Giants what Romo is to Dallas now.
Collins was big on talent coming out of college...perhaps a Heisman Trophy winner if not for his own teammate, Ki-Jana Carter, costing Collins 1st.
Anyway, Romo has perhaps had a bigger career then anybody would ever thought that he would have.
However, Romo is not a big time quarterback. He has loads of talent around him in Dez, Austin, Jones, Murray and Witten. He is surrounded by better talent then what Eli has on his offense.
As with Collins, a qb that was destined to never win the big game, Romo is likely to have a similar destiny. Maybe better than Danny White, but never on the level of Roger Staubach or Troy Aikman. Can Romo make it to the Super Bowl? He can. We have seen qb's make it and even win it that wern't elite qb's. Trent Dilfer and Kurt Warner come to mind. By the way, please do not come to Warner's defense. Anybody could have led that Rams team to a Super Bowl championship. Also, thank Kevin Dyson for being about an inch too short. Dilfer, well that guy has his defense to thank for his ring.
I understand Bradshaw's opinion; however, I do not feel that he spoke intelligently on the topic. Furthermore, the NFL Network agrees about Romo's flaws and inability to lead. If not, why would the question be asked to Bradshaw in the first place? Bradshaw should also be a bit more grateful. Afterall, Bradshaw was a questionable 7th round pick in the 2008. He has surprised and excelled as has Romo. But the Giants do not have two Super Bowl Championships becaus
e of Bradshaw. They have those two championships mainly because of Eli Manning, with a lot of credit to Justin Tuck too and the rest of the players on the team that were intergral in those two Super Bowl runs. You can't forget Tom Coughlin too. He is a head coach that understands chemistry, teamwork, communication and winning.
I wish the best for Romo and the Cowboys but I truly feel that they are not going to see a Super Bowl Championship with Romo, unless they flat out have the best, most talented team in the NFL. As did the Ravens and Rams of yesteryear.
Well it is the first weekend of no meaningful football until September!
To think the labor stoppage almost ruined what was one of the best NFL years ever!
Keep playing and keep rating me up CBS!

Ahmad Bradshaw takes shot at Tony Romo

Simply put...Romo is THE guy in Dallas. Eli is THE guy in New York. Brees is THE guy in New Orleans. Rodgers is THE guy in Green Bay. Bradshaw is just a guy, and a very ordinary one. --------- Simply put, Bradshaw was injured for part of the year and was playing hurt in the playoffs.. Look at his numbers for the last few years, then come back and run your mouth. More simply put, in the last 5 seasons, the Giants have won it all twice - the Cowboys have won a single playoff game. Tony Romo may be "the guy" in Dallas, bu if you recall, not so long ago.. Quincy Carter was "the guy in Dallas". Romo has a LOT of improvement to make before you can even think about putting him in the same class as Brady, Eli, Peyton, and Brees.
