SNL spoofs Eastwood's Chrysler Super Bowl spot

Hader parodies Eastwood in SNL's version of 'It's halftime, America.' (YouTube/Hulu)

By Ryan Wilson

Chrysler's Super Bowl commercial featuring Clint Eastwood's "It's halftime, America" pep talk was inadvertently pulled from YouTube last Sunday night not because of objectionable content or copyright infringement but because of a mix-up.

The day after the Super Bowl, the Wall Street Journal's Suzanne Vranica wrote that Chrysler "was one of the few big-game advertisers that didn’t release its Super Bowl commercial prior to the game. That meant it missed out on the millions of dollars in free publicity that other advertisers got from online airings of their ads beforehand. Post-game online availability would have helped make up for that."

The spot was generally well received (save the Karl Rove crowd) and given all the subsequent attention (as of this writing, it's been viewed almost 6.5 million times on YouTube), there is little concern that the ad hasn't been widely seen. Especially since Saturday Night Live's Bill Hader parodied the commercial over the weekend.

"I don't care if Obama runs the ball, or Romney throws a touchdown, or Ron Paul kicks a field goal with his tiny little chicken legs," Hader-as-Eastwood warns. "I tell you right now, though, I ain't puttin' Santorum in the game. He can stand on the sideline doin' cheers in his little sweater vest."

(Trent Lott takes offense to the cheerleader crack.)

The original Chrysler-Eastwood spot is below:

to "Ontrack"...it's not about which Republican is running, what I'm referring to is that SNL has become a platform for taking shots only at Conservative, Catholic & Christian Americans. They made fun of Jesus on their Christmas show this past year. Made fun of "White people" during the show with Charles Barkley as the host.  If a White host did a skit making fun of Black people...there would be a riot in Rockerfeller Center. Having watched the show for 3 decades, I have definitely seen a shift to attacking one side once Tina Fey came onboard.  NBC in general has become extremely one sided.  Our country cannot truly heal or come together until ALL media outlets reports for the viewers...not just the sponsors.

SNL is still on the air?
That's the first thing that I thought also.

They stink on both sides. Term limits for all public offices. The special interests run the show and the people get the shaft. Work to find how to gain standing to bring a bill forward that the people get to vote on and we can fix this mess. Term Limits for All!

Agreed. I don't know how this country has survived this long without term limits on the house and senate. Corruption is at an all time high in these institutions. A bill passed to set term limits and eliminate lobbyism would do wonders for this country.

I watched he video and thought he was making a point of how obama is running this country and we need to band together to get rid of him , like detroit is doing with the car industry.
Wow. Your not bright.

dear pimpslapped1:

first, great name.  i really can't think of anything that would better suit someone of your obviously high intellectual level.  you seem fond of insulting the intelligence of others.  and for that, i commend you.  there is no more honorable pursuit.  but, if i may, i have a small piece of advice to offer.

you should be sure that when you are insulting another person's intelligence you aren't betraying your own lack thereof.  of course, i am referring to your (notice the spelling) apparent lack of awareness of the homophones "your" and "you're."  you see, "your" is a possessive.  "you're" is a contraction of the two words "you" and "are."  correctly written, you would have said: "you're not bright."  but instead, you wrote a sentence fragment, indicating that someone owns dark, or something along those lines.  that doesn't make any sense, and it makes you look silly.

please try harder next time.

cheers!
