The wife of defensive lineman Tommie Harris is on life support after suffering either a stroke or brain aneurism, family friend Bill Horn told the Chicago Sun-Times' Sean Jensen.

"We are holding on for a miracle," Horn said.

Harris was the 14th overall pick in the 2004 draft out of the University of Oklahoma. He played seven seasons with the Bears where he was a Pro Bowler. The team released him after the 2010 season. He was also released by the Colts during the 2011 preseason before signing with the Chargers where he played in 13 games, registered 13 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble.

Jensen reports that Ashley, 29, is in an Oklahoma hospital and some of Harris' Chicago teammates are en route to offer their support. Ashley gave birth to the couple's second child in October.

You don't get over it,
you just get through it.
You don't get by it,
because you can't get around it.
It doesn't 'get better';
it just gets different.
Everyday... Grief puts on a new face....
-Wendy Feireisen

Stay strong for the kids Tommie..... Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Our thoughts and paryers are with his family...prayer comes in many forms and religions. This is very sad to see this happen to someone who is only 29, a wife and a mother. I am touched that many of his former Bears team mates are coming to give their support.

While your comment is rude and insensitive, you have the freedom to speak your mind. But, prayer (I'm an atheist too) serves more purpose then looking for a physical action (or miracle)... It can serve as a calming force that helps a person to have hope in what is essentially a lost cause. It can serve as emotional support and a way to build strength in a person when times are tough. More importantly, I think is that some people, with a belief system in a higher power, carry on the "do unto others as you would have them do to you" in their personal life and it makes them better people (from the perspective of being a positive influence, having a positive attitude, looking for the best in most situations and being strong and a good role model for others). Again, I'm an atheist, but i see the effects of religion on my mother in law (who's 64 year old husband is dying from dementia) and the insane amount of strength and positivity she gets from her belief system. While breaking it down with science can prove that it's fairly certain that there is no man in the sky, the sense of hope she derives from it is indeed factual and can be seen, well, religion has done its job. It's probably begetter for you to just leave your hate and disdain for religion and religious followers off of message boards... It screams of intolerance and serves nobody any better.

Report: Tommie Harris' wife on life support

I lost my sister when she was a week short of her 33rd birthday so reading stories like this brings back some memories.  I know the feeling...... the feeling of not knowing what's going to happen next.  Not knowing if your loved one is going to make it another hour, day or week.  It sucks.....     My prayers go out to Tommie's wife... everybody deserves more then 29 years on this earth.

I will say a prayer for your wife, family and you Mr. Harris.  I don't know you well enough to call you Tommie Harris but I hope and pray for a complete and quick recovery.  God Bless.
