Eagles wideout DeSean Jackson wants a new contract. This is not new news. But the latest reason for this discussion won't likely end with Jackson being any happier, as the Eagles are reportedly planning to place the franchise tag on Jackson before he gets to free agency.

Latest NFL News, Notes

That's according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, who says to "count on" the Eagles franchising Jackson because the team will not let Jackson "walk without getting something in return."

Philly has from February 20 to March 5 to apply the franchise tag. After that, Jackson would become a free agent. Jackson's already said he's fine with playing under the franchise tag in 2012, probably because he'd be willing to make around $9.5 million guaranteed. (More than three times the value of the entire rookie deal he just finished playing out.)

A pile of disastrous events -- an insurance policy, missed team meetings, a fourth-quarter benching, getting called out by teammates, you name it -- are sandwiched between Jackson's holdout before 2011 and his impending free agency in 2012. That being said, the Eagles need Jackson. The explosive wide receiver had just 58 catches for 961 yards in 2011, but his value to the Eagles offense as a deep threat can't be understated.

Additionally, the Eagles may seek a trade with Jackson once they use the franchise tag on the wideout, according to McLane. There are plenty of other wideout-needy teams in the NFL who might be interested in giving Jackson a long-term deal, and the Eagles would love to get something back for him.

Could a long-term deal with Jackson still happen? Of course it could. But Jackson and agent Drew Rosenhaus want Jackson to be paid like a top-five wideout.

"I think right in that range," Jackson said last year. "Maybe top-5 in the NFL. ...My playmaking skills and abilities, my punt returns, and the ability to get the ball and score on any play. I mean, Fitzgerald, he's a special receiver -- don't get me wrong -- but he doesn't play special teams so that adds an extra edge to it."

Jackson's not "wrong," per se, when discussing how his skills make him a valuable commodity. The problem is his attitude, which is so poor -- at times -- that it's reduced his effectiveness on the field and made him a distraction off of it. That's not exactly the type of behavior that sends teams scrambling to throw big-time, long-term money at a player.

When you make a bad play you have no heart? Really. Now you're just being a troll -- a very bad one at that.

I guess no player in the NFL has heart then..

Franchise this guy?.................the only sentence that should include Jackson and franchise is " we'll hire you as a cashier at McDonalds if you have good references."

So the eagles played very well through most games but a fumble or int would kill it for them. That doesnt mean they dont have heart. Means they dont take care of the ball.

excuses excuses excuses....no heart

From your logic the 49ers have less heart then the Giants because Kyle Williams couldnt back away from a punt.

he has no heart because he fumbled the second one...

Im done with the double team thing because you just flat out dont know.

Nope wrong. There were 11 recievers who had 900 yards. Jackson was 3rd out of those 11 and was the 22nd reciever in the NFL in yards. With Mike Vick out for 5 games. Obviously those stats would be a lot better with Vick in.

Yes the eagles had a bunch of talent. But they also lead the league in turnovers. So the eagles played very well through most games but a fumble or int would kill it for them. That doesnt mean they dont have heart. Means they dont take care of the ball.

you dont pay attention then at the games because like i said he doesnt get double teamed more..its not an opinion its a fact.

he does get double teamed more...so sorry little baby nova

But he hasnt done that yet. And for a down year from jackson he still had 900

i hate to break it to you but there were probably 30 wrs with 900 yards this year...900 yards is nothing to brag about....thats a low end #2 or high #3

The eagles did underachieve this year i wont argue tht point with you. But hows tht have to do with NO HEART? If you lose its because you have no heart?

if you have a ton of talent and lose as badly or play as badly as eagles yes it usually has to do with no heart!

So your bascially saying the giants had no heart until the playoffs then?

yes basically....should not have lost to redskins twice...they were flat and had no heart

Eagles are now curious about Randy Moss... Interesting.  No need for Randy Moss and D-Jack on the same team, so maybe the Eagles are trying to leverage Jackson with this supposed curiosity.  Personally, I would not want Moss or D- Jack anywhere around my lockeroom.  2 pouters, 2 quitters and 2 guys who are too talented to be such losers.

And I know your talking about cruz over just jackson. But your reason for it is based off stats and thts it. Not to mention based off one season. If Cruz can have the same or close to season as last season then yeah i would take cruz too. But he hasnt done that yet. And for a down year from jackson he still had 900+ yards recieving with vince young as his qb for 5 games who was about 20 yrds short of jackson every time he threw the ball to him. Ill take tht.
