For the gambler in you (offseason edition)

MossBy Josh Katzowitz

Occasionally in the offseason, we’ll take the best -- and most clever -- odds collected by Bovada and give our take. This is important stuff, perhaps the most important post you’ll read on this site. Because if you can’t lose money while watching a game in which you have absolutely no effect, what’s the point of watching sports at all?

Will Randy Moss win NFL comeback player of the year for the 2012 regular season?

Yes 5/1

The better question is: will Moss be in the position to win the comeback player of the year? As in, will a team actually sign and, then, play him? Didn’t work out so well for Terrell Owens last year, huh?

Who will sign Randy Moss next?

New England Patriots 5/2

Chicago Bears 7/2

Washington Redskins  5/1

San Francisco 49ers 5/1

New York Jets 11/2

St. Louis Rams 7/1

Dallas Cowboys 10/1

Philadelphia Eagles 10/1

I don’t see the Patriots grabbing him again -- after all, they traded him away last year, and they had a good reason for that. I could see the Jets going after him (we were talking about this last May), especially if Plaxico Burress leaves via free agency. But I’d rather take the bet that Moss isn’t playing at all.

Will Albert Haynesworth play Week 1 of the 2012 regular season?

Yes +110

No -150

With all of my heart I want to say no. But I think he showed enough with the Buccaneers -- plus, he was on his best behavior -- that somebody else will give him a chance. I don’t know if he’ll be playing in Week 17. But there’s a strong chance he’ll be there in Week 1.

Any contract for Moss or Haynesworth would have to be heavily incentive laden.  Neither can be depended on to give 100%, or even 80% effort, so they would need the incentive to perform, in my opinion.  Personally, I wouldn't take either, but if a team does, they better cover their butts financially.

i would like to hope the Patriots would take him back, but probably not, so i would have to say the best fit and the team that would take him is the Eagles. He could just run down the field and wait for Vick to free up coverage. They took a chance on Vick when no one else would touch him with a ten foot pole and they will do the same with Moss. Take that to the bank, straight cash money homie.

That explains them signing Joey Porter a few years back

Not at all actually. The only reason the Cardinals got him is because he is a former Steeler reject with a pulse, just like half the roster Whis has ever built there.

Vegas just loves putting the Patriots #1 with everything. Maybe they thought the question was Super Bowl favorites.

name the last Cardinal who was arrested
Joey Porter, 3/27/2010.  Arrested on suspicion of DUI in Bakersfield. Also accused of assaulting police officer and resisting arrest.

According to the NFL Arrest Database, they've had 9 players arrested since 2000.  Which, in the grand scheme of things, is not a lot (most teams fall somewhere in the mid-20's, with Cincinnati at 37).  Two consecutive years without a single incident is actually a very good track record.

Ergo, your point is valid.  The Cardinals will probably not touch any of these veterans with character issues.

He doesn't fit the Cards organization who puts a premium on character.. If you doubt that, name the last Cardinal who was arrested.

Random Fandom...last year was an averation on so many levels. Be sure the level of success the Niners achieved is one of them.
