Peyton Manning has been in the news more in the last month than he was at any point during the 2011 season. This is what happens when one of the NFL's best players is sidelined with a serious neck injury, his status remains uncertain, and he's due a $28 million bonus on March 13. There are questions about, well, everything.

Will Peyton be healthy enough to return to the field in 2012? Will the Colts pay him said $28 million? And if not, where might Manning end up?

CBSSports.com's Will Brinson handicapped those teams that might be in the Manning business next season and it included the usual suspects: the Dolphins, Redskins, Cardinals and even the Colts. But Brinson also included the Seahawks, an outfit that let Matt Hasselbeck walk after 2010 and went with Tarvaris Jackson last year.

On Sunday, Dan Pompei of the National Football Post writes that Seattle is more than intrigued by Manning.

"Based on the buzz around the league, the Seahawks could be the early frontrunner for Peyton Manning, assuming he is released," says Pompei. "Pete Carroll needs a quarterback and is believed to have a strong interest in at least exploring Manning.

"The Seahawks could offer Manning an attractive scenario. They have a young team with some fine skill players to put around him. They play in one of the league’s loudest stadiums. Manning wouldn’t be subject to the same kind of scrutiny in Seattle that he would in a lot of other markets. The Seahawks also could have a better feel for Manning’s medical situation than some teams. One of their team physicians, Stan Herring, who also is one of the country’s preeminent specialists for spine injuries. Herring is a member of the NFL’s Head, Neck and Spine Committee."

Jackson played better than we expected last season, but as NFL Network's Mike Mayock said earlier this week, “I like him. He’s developed to a certain point, but I think that position needs to be upgraded. And I don’t mind T-Jack competing for the position, but I think you either have to get a free agent in there or you have to draft somebody.”

Manning would certainly fit the description of competition although, again, no one knows if or when he'll be completely healthy. Then it becomes a question of which teams are willing to take a flier on him in the hopes that if he's not ready in 2012, he'll be available in 2013. That decision, we suspect, will come down to some combination money (for Manning) and desperation (by quarterback-needy teams).

Pompei also suggests that Manning and Reggie Wayne (he'll be a free agent in a few weeks) could be a packaged deal.

"A few pro scouts believe Wayne’s production may dip, given he probably will be in a new offensive system for the first time in his career, and he is 33 years old," Pompei says. "That isn’t to say the free agent to be doesn’t have a couple of good years left in him, however. Wayne could maximize his ability if he were to continue his connection with Manning."

We've been saying this for months, too. If Peyton returns, we'd expect Wayne to join him. If Manning can't play in '12, we wouldn't be surprised if Wayne ended up in New England.

Are Seahawks front runners for Peyton Manning?

Seattle would be a nice fit with the defense in place along with Marshawn Lynch and the running game.  Another good fit would be Arizona, Larry Fitzgerald is a Hall of Fame receiver in his prime along with Beanie Wells at running back would make life exciting for Manning.  If Manning is healthy and can return to form than either of these teams is an instant Super Bowl contender.

Manning in that division, wow you might as well hand them the division title till he retires and throw in at least one Super Bowl. Not to mention that with their owner & Pete Carrol being agressive personalities, they would actively stack that team to compete immediately. But I dont see it happening, nice thought though.

READ MY LIPS!.............Manning WILL NOT go to an NFC. WHy do you think Eli really went to the Giants? To avoid the Mannings facing each other in the playoffs. I just don't seee it happening. I would give it an outside shot at the 49ers because Wayne and Manning would DESTROY that division. Skins NO WAY! Seattle NO WAY!! Ladyboys NO WAY! Cardinals NO WAY! AFC is the place. I say Miami because of Marshall. Add Wayne and they are serious. I believe the Manning is no afraid of the Brady/Manning home and away every year and the NFL is drowling over that, TV rating through the roof. Jets are interesting because the Manning Bros. would be crazy for the media. I say 80% Phins, 10% Jets, 5% 49ers and 5% to the field. I just don't see Manning going to a MAYBE??? team in the NFC.

Miami? Please!

There's no way he goes to Miami, in the same division as New England and New York. He wants to win another Superbowl and the best way to do that is make the playoffs. Going to Miami is a great disadvantage to doing that. Denver, Kansas City, Seattle, and Arizona would be the easiest places to win the division and host a playoff game.

Are Seahawks front runners for Peyton Manning?

What a dumbass statement. He is in Indy now, not exactly a large market. This is the age of 24hr sportsnews through approximately 4-5 television stations, hundred of internet sites, and multiple print outlets. There is no such thing as a less scrutinizing small market anymore. As to the point of the story, Seattle and Arizona both make sense, although Arizona seems to be a better opton due to receivers, playing conditions (retractable roof), and coach in my opinion. The ony team that I think doesn't really have a chance to win the NFC West next year is St Louis.
Clearly somebody that has never traveled anywhere. Indy's media is puny and doesn't provide much scrutiny. Maybe ESPN sends people over and then runs a few segments, but that's it. Peyton doesn't have 50 reporters following him around all day everyday with half of them trying to constantly provoke him and smear his reputation.

There is no comparison from small markets to NYC. There are some other major sports towns like Boston, and there's no comparison form a small market to Boston either.

I've traveled to several cities and lived in a few. I absolutely despise NYC for the same reasons others love it: it's too noisy, congested, hostile and fast-paced. The media here are absolute weasels, protected by liberal laws designed to reward and protect those that create problems for others but who themselves can't handle any adversity directed at themselves. This is the same media that desperately tries to convince everyone that Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin suck every year, for no reason but to screw with them. Right now they are busy hyping Jeremy Lin, who is a very good player, only so they can begin tearing him down in a few weeks.

Peyton Manning doesn't want to deal with that. It's one thing to get that on Sportscenter here and there, it's another to be constantly surrounded by it. Small town papers barely cover sports at all, they just report what happens and it's maybe a few pages. The big markets have several newspapers with tons of editorials and nonsense columns. Imagine 45 Greg Doyel columns a day and that's what you get in a big media market.
