Frazier: AP will NOT start running this month

Eye on Football staff report

INDIANAPOLIS -- Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has talked lately about returning to a running schedule by Feb. 28 in his attempt to rehab his torn ACL/MCL from the end of last season. During his talk with reporters Friday, though, Minnesota coach Leslie Frazier threw cold water all over Peterson’s optimism.

“He’s very optimistic about where he is in his rehab and the progress he’s making,” Frazier said. “He’s come along. He’s right on schedule, and he feels he’s ahead of schedule. But we do have to temper his emotions at times.”

Frazier said he and Peterson talked about that point Thursday, and that probably stems from a radio interview Peterson conducted earlier this week when he said, “I’m definitely making improvement. I’m starting to get my muscle tone and strength back into the legs. I’m happy with the progress I’ve made so far. I’m extremely happy.”

Besides, Frazier knows what can happen when Peterson attempts to return to the field before he’s completely healthy. That is, after all, what happened in December when Peterson returned from a high ankle sprain so his fantasy owners wouldn’t be mad at him. Peterson ended up suffering that gruesome season-ending injury after taking a helmet to the knee (Peterson actually heard the knee go pop-pop-pop).

“He’s got to listen to what the doctors are telling him and the rehab specialists and go at their pace,” Frazier said. “There are steps to take before you actually start running. He has to go through those steps.”

First up for Peterson before he can run on land is to begin running in the pool. Considering Peterson wanted to start running four days from now without running in the pool first, that’s just not going to happen with Frazier looming over his shoulder.

So, will Peterson stop trying to get himself ahead of schedule and stay the course set by his doctors?

“He’s begun to understand that he’s got to listen to the doctors and go at the pace they expect him to and not try to force this,” Frazier said. “Because he can do more damage than he realizes.”

Frazier: AP will NOT start running this month

fredemurkue thats a good take on whats going on. The wilfs seem to be good owners not afraid to get players like Jerad Allen and such, but they seem to also have a knack for hirings first time bozo coaches. I like them as owner they seem to want to win but they have to make better choices when it comes to the most important guy on the field which is the coach. This team has a pattern of going after first time coaches that have zero experience. I dont think just because you played you should be given a head coaching job. You should have at least a couple years in high school college anything , but to be given a head coaching job just two years removed from CB coach is a joke.

Now world and bob we all know its football and they are paid big bucks to play. But a high ankle sprain isnt just a sprain, it takes alot longer to heal then a couple weeks, it takes 4-8 weeks to heal them. When you are a runner and you have a high ankle sprain you will run different trying not to hurt it anymore, and anyone could see he wasnt running normal. he couldve waited a week and ended the season at home playing for the home crowd. But some moron coach aloud him to ruin his career with a stupid injury that shouldve never happened in a worthless away game ( GO FANTASY FOOTBALL ) because that what it sounds like you were worried about. The coach shpouldve worried about his future, and if youre to weak minded to beable to say no AD its to early then you shouldnt coach .

Frazier: AP will NOT start running this month

I agree with anyone thinking that AP shouldn't have been playing is an idiot!  It's the NFL and he is getting paid to play.  It's the NFL and fans pay good money to watch him play, and he would not be happy sitting on the bench.  I can not believe there is anyone out there stupid enough to blame Frazier for playing him.  This is why you see the "Don't eat the big mint" sign in front of urinals!  So We have established that there are idiots among us!  Any player, or coach as with we saw with Sean in the big easy, can have a huge injury at anytime.  It's part of the game, you can't stop playing your good players in a bad season, and you certainly can't fix stupid!  The last part being the most obvious.  Go Vikes!

Frazier isn't the fault of Petersons injury whatsoever. That is just ridiculous when everyone keeps saying it. The doctors said he was okay to play right? The guy is making big money and is 30 -50% of the play him. Doesn't matter if we are done for the season. The people would probably whine if they sat him. And so would A.P. Anyway Frazier needs to boot the O.C. He is the bigger problem.

Coming from the retarded coach that played him in a worthless game, I say Frazier you are a moron just shut up and coach your last year next year, you worthless piece of garb.

This is just a young man who doesnt want to listen. He thinks he is young, tough and a fast healer, which he probably is, but he has to calm down and listen to the doctors. It will come. He just has to be patient.

NOW Frazier wants him to take his time and heal? This is the same idiot who thrust him back into the line-up before he was ready last season...
