INDIANAPOLIS -- If you thought it was impossible for NFL people to fall more in love with Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, you thought wrong. RG3 proved exactly why on Sunday, shredding the 40-yard dash and looking as fast as expected en route to running an official 4.41 40-yard dash.

Andrew Luck, not exactly known as a speedster, was perhaps more impressive with his unofficial 4.59 40 time, later changed to a 4.67 official time.

Griffin's time (both officially and unofficially) was the second-fastest by a quarterback since 2006, with only Reggie McNeal's time of 4.35 in 2006 beating him out. Russell Wilson of Wisconsin ran a 4.50 40 for the second-fastest time of the day, and Jordan Jefferson of LSU ran a 4.59.

The bump up from unofficial to official doesn't matter too much; Griffin got below 4.4 seconds on an unofficial time and that's all people around the league really need to see.

Griffin ran track at Baylor (and in high school) and his performance at the combine -- on the field, in front of the mic, wherever -- has only continued to cement his status as a lock for top-five status in the NFL draft.

It would be stunning, honestly, if RG3 fell further than the second pick. There's a strong belief that the Rams will hold an auction for the No. 2 pick and that someone will pay a hefty price to move up and grab Griffin.

Which is why folks in St. Louis should be enjoying this almost as much as teams who are chasing Griffin are.

Don't really see how speed really matters all that much for QB's. I mean, just look at Peyton Manning for example. He's not really fast, but he has enough awareness and mobility in the pocket to move around and get the ball out of there.

This is a non-news story.

I agree with yankeesallthewa.  Not really sure why Luck is considered a sure thing, and not really sure why he is considered as such over RG3. I suppose one can thank Vince Young, Jamarcus Russell, et al, but I would hope Cam Newton has done enough to disspell those notions.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Colts grab Griffin. I mean come on they would be solving 2 problems with one player. They need a future star at quarterback and right now they have no running game.

I like Luck but I really think he will become a bust. He played for a team that over-loaded one side of the line so that he could make better reads and give him more time. He won't get this in the NFL. No team is going to use a 2 tight-end set with a runningback and full-back. Even if they did he won't have the time to make choices like he did in college. He will turn out to be another over-rated pocket passer who will be asked to run a wide open offense that takes his protection away from him.

Griffin should be the number 1 pick! He has wheels, the arm, and the brains.

Who cares if he ran a 4.41......In the NFL, that will equate to many highlight reel runs and ZERO superbowl wins......Ask Michael Vick!

Johnny Mc is correct in the Elway assessment- he was great at extending plays with his scrambling ability.  And the fact that he could get yards if he took off and ran made defenses honest and helped get his receivers open.  A lot of his greatest plays were created on the run so I would say he was a dual threat.  Roethlisberger is very similar in his scrambling/running abilities.

Yeah, if I'm the Colts I would for sure draft the QB with the fastest 40 time.  That makes so much sense - it's a total no brainer.

Why does every mock draft have Luck going to Indy. I cant believe the Colts would't consider RG3. What he could do in that dome could be impressive. He would not be as effective in Washington or Cleveland with the grass fields and Weather conditions.
