INDIANAPOLIS -- If you thought it was impossible for NFL people to fall more in love with Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, you thought wrong. RG3 proved exactly why on Sunday, shredding the 40-yard dash and looking as fast as expected en route to running an official 4.41 40-yard dash.

Andrew Luck, not exactly known as a speedster, was perhaps more impressive with his unofficial 4.59 40 time, later changed to a 4.67 official time.

Griffin's time (both officially and unofficially) was the second-fastest by a quarterback since 2006, with only Reggie McNeal's time of 4.35 in 2006 beating him out. Russell Wilson of Wisconsin ran a 4.50 40 for the second-fastest time of the day, and Jordan Jefferson of LSU ran a 4.59.

The bump up from unofficial to official doesn't matter too much; Griffin got below 4.4 seconds on an unofficial time and that's all people around the league really need to see.

Griffin ran track at Baylor (and in high school) and his performance at the combine -- on the field, in front of the mic, wherever -- has only continued to cement his status as a lock for top-five status in the NFL draft.

It would be stunning, honestly, if RG3 fell further than the second pick. There's a strong belief that the Rams will hold an auction for the No. 2 pick and that someone will pay a hefty price to move up and grab Griffin.

Which is why folks in St. Louis should be enjoying this almost as much as teams who are chasing Griffin are.

Why is it not okay to point out the obvious differences between colored and non-colored athletes?
Why is it okay to joke about Lin? Hisface was super-imposed inside of a fortune cookie!
Can you imagine the outcry if they'd paste a photo of RG3 on a pack of Kools or on a KFC bucket?
Anyway...do you toolbags really judge each other on who has the higher rated post?
I'm sure this one will have a negative rating b/c I used the words colored, non-colored, Kools and KFC.
And for that matter, i saw Wes Welker at the Gap in Foxboro a few weeks back...

Seriously, how old are you? Do you even remember seeing Elway play? He was lauded for his running ability coming out of college. It was one of the things that scouts loved about him coming out of Stanford. Dude, please stop already. You continue to make yourself look bad!

Luck is faster than people thought and RG3 is about what people thought. If anything this may have cemented Luck as the #1 overall pick.

ol_ballcoach, Luck doesn't get the credit he deserves as an athlete. I saw him take off, and run from LB's and DB's that were considered faster. I wasn't surprised by the numbers he put up at the combine. Very underrated as an athlete!

Cosign on the hype, but with your comments on JPP, I see that as even more reason for the mobile QB to become more of the norm. LB's now routinely run in the 4.5 range, so that is a reason to have a QB that can move a little. Rodgers (?) is the perfect example of that. As far as height goes, Brees is 6' 0 at the most, and he is pretty successful. I just haven't seen too many 6' 8 QB's exel. I remember one named McGuire a few years back, but he didn't pan out. Not to say that another one won't.

I hate signing day as much as you! Totally a waste of time in my opinion.
