For the past few years, the NFL's kicked off each season with a Thursday-night game featuring the previous year's Super Bowl champion. This year, though, the kickoff will be on a Wednesday, to avoid Barack Obama's scheduled speech at the Democratic National Convention, Commissioner Roger Goodell announced on Tuesday.

Latest NFL News, Notes

The specific Wednesday in question September 5, 2012 and it will feature the Giants, as expected. It'll take place on NBC, beginning at 8:30 pm ET, with an NFL Kickoff 2012 special airing at 7:30 pm ET.

Currently the Giants are scheduled to host the Saints, Buccaneers, Browns, Steelers, their NFC East division foes and ... the Packers. Green Bay, as the 2010 champion, makes the most sense as a potential opening game for the Giants.

The NFL has yet to announce that however, but made the information about the move from a Thursday to a Wednesday public early on.

So much for the idea that the NFL was more powerful than the President.

For all the crybabies on this site, why don't you just PVR, DVD or tape the game and then watch it on Thursday at its original starting time! There problem solved. Laughing

As for those of you with drafts on Wednesday night, would you prefer that the NFL move the game to Tuesday night then? Tongue out

NFL kicks off Wednesday 9/5 to avoid Obama speech

So the complaint is that we get football EARLIER due to Obama? What is the problem with that? Or is it just another reason to non-sensically complain that so many people on message boards seem to like taking advantage of?

I could only imagine what are beloved President O'Bama is going to tell us! I'd rather see NFL cheerleaders giving us a rah rah speech, I've heard enough from him. He lives in a fantasy land just like the rest of Generation X who voted him in! Its time to get REAL! ROMNEY IN 2012!

So big deal on Thursday Sept 6 2012 I will probably watch a college game or MLB.  My Gransons high school team may also be playing.  The only thing I am sure I will not be doing is wathing the President read his prompter telling everyone what they want to hear.  That is offcourse if the goverment does not require us to watch by that time .

The thief of Penn. Ave once again has obliterated the world we know it for his purposes ...
next we'll hear he wants us to give up the first day of college football ...
so he can have a campaign fund raiser on the backs of college players ...

Nothing like a good PoFlaWa on a SPORTS website. Does Fox News, MSN, etc, know that you guys went missing? All of you clowns are missing the big picture here. THE NFL IS STARTING A DAY EARLIER! You initially came on here to read about sports right? But NO, someone who has a different opinion than you and is "uneducated" needs some education? Who cares? Are you suddenly going to change the ideology of someone by the brilliance of your post? Probably Definitely not. Grow up Peter Pan. Count Chocula.

NFL kicks off Wednesday 9/5 to avoid Obama speech

The Deficit Spending plan for Economic Recovery first brought to you by RONALD REAGAN.  I assume you are for greatly increasing taxes on the wealthiest Americans, particularly when it comes to capital gains so that we can return to the kind of economic success we enjoyed post world war two when the tax on wealthiest Americans was over 90%!!! If you’re upset about the deficit, you call on your president to start taxing the wealthy so we can get back to economic prosperity.  And if you don't think he's your president, turn yourself in you treasonous traitorous pieces of crap.  I didn't like George W. Bush, but I wasn't a baby about it.  I realized he was the president and you respect the uniform not the man if you are a patriotic god fearing American.
I'm glad somebody on these boards actually understands how these things work.  If more people actually did, maybe we'd make the rich contribute a little more rather than keep telling the majority of American they have to work more hours, until an older age, for less money, and with fewer protections.
