Rex Ryan says he's never participated in bounty

Erase Rex Ryan off the list of coaches who would pay his players to injure opponents.

The Jets coach and the son of Buddy Ryan, the former Eagles coach who supposedly put out a bounty on Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman in 1989, said that’s not something in which he has participated. Nor would he.

"This is something that is being handled by the NFL office," Ryan said in a statement on Saturday, via the New York Daily News. "I’ve never condoned it and I’ve never coached it."

The same apparently can’t be said of current Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who helped run a bounty pool while as the Saints defensive coordinator -- he apologized in a statement on Friday -- and possibly as the Redskins defensive coordinator in the years before that.

Rex Ryan says he's never participated in bounty

You will never hear an NFL coach to admit something like this. The truth will come out when some disgruntled player opens his mouth about it. The NFL is a close knit community. If you catch one team doing something illegal, its only the tip of the iceberg. Eventually you hear that most team use bounties to get their players to over perform. No coaches will ever admit to it. This investrigation will go on for a long, long time.. This practice of bounty hunty has been going since the early days of the NFL. Players of the original NFL were not paid like the miilionaires of today. Most of them had other jobs to pay their bills. Players would put money in a pool to say "put the QB out, or the star of the other team, and win the pot" League officials back then turned their heads and we can't be sure the same isn't true today.

Rex offered to rub anyone's feet who made a particularly notable play, which maybe explains why the Jets D went in the tank this year.

Why are they even asking NFL coaches this question?  It's so stupid it's not even funny.  Unless it's a coach that was connected at some point to the Saints or a coach that gets called out by former players, there isn't a chance in hell a coach in today's NFL is going to willingly destroy their reputation and risk fines, suspensions, lost draft picks and risk losing their job.

You may as well just ask them if they participate in illegal gambling during the NFL season or maybe ask them if they deal drugs on the side, you have just as good a chance of them answering yes to those questions.
