When Seahawks general manager John Schneider said last month that free agent running back Marshawn Lynch would return to Seattle for the 2012 season, he answered “Sure” when asked if the franchise tag could be applied if a long-term contract wasn’t negotiated.

With the franchise tag deadline closing Monday, that step won’t be necessary after all.

The Seahawks announced Sunday night that Lynch has signed a multi-year contract. According to multiple reports, the deal is worth $31 million over four years with $18 million guaranteed.

“We are excited to keep Marshawn as an important part of what we are building,” Schneider said. “This is what we were hoping for when we acquired him from Buffalo.”

Lynch -- listed fourth on our list of unrestricted free agent running backs this offseason -- has done well since the Bills traded him to Seattle in 2010, aided in part by an untold amount of Skittles

He helped the Seahawks upset the Saints in the 2010 postseason -- you remember this ridiculous rushing touchdown, right? -- and in 2011, he recorded career highs in rushing yards (1,204) and touchdowns (13) while scoring in a franchise-record 11-straight games.

Seahawks sign Lynch to multi-year deal

wigglr...  or whomever you would post as on a normal basis...
Jrock made a point about him thinking the money has been earned by Lynch.  How in the hell did you get off on this tangent from what he said?  Then you close out w/ calling him a moron?!?

Any chance we get you to go post someplace else?

You really didn't get my point? REALLY? His point was he deserved this new contract correct? So he feels that a team should pay big money to players for what they DID not what the team thinks he will DO in the future. That was my point and YES it had everything to do with his comment.

No I'm not going anywhere. In fact I will voice my opinion on any post that I feel like an idiotic comment was made. So with that being said I'm sure I'll commenting on one of yours real soon.

Seahawks sign Lynch to multi-year deal

He's earned it huh? So now he can just coast and "earn" $31 mil over the next few years? Ya he's been a solid running back up until now. How about wording it like this? He's proven to the Seahawks that he will be a top running back worth the $31 mil over the next few years. It's people like you that wanna reward a player for what's he's accomplished rather that what he will do for the team in the future. You sure your name isn't Dan Synder? MORON!

Seahawks sign Lynch to multi-year deal

Nice Move!  Lynch was a guy you had to sign and he is still very young!  A four year deal is awesome!  Now, its time to address other issues...as in one major issue.  The Hawks need to suck it up and admit that they have made some serious mistakes when it comes to signing vets.  First, they get Whitehurst (Clipboard Jesus).  You can train a monkey to do what he does.  Its a no brainer, he was a wasted pick-up...Now for T-Jack...time for him to go also!  He had very few flashes of success last year.  QB is the #1 position we need and one that can start next season!

The Seattle Seahawks needed to get this deal done to keep Lynch if they want to take that next step as a team. I still think they need to get a QB, but at least they have a running back.
