Rinaldo has hearing for hit on Jonathan Ericsson

Just a little over a week after Zac Rinaldo received a pair of fines for a trip and a late hit against the New Jersey Devils, the Flyers forward will be answering questions from the NHL once again on Monday following a charging penalty against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night.

The NHL has a 1 PM disciplinary hearing with Rinaldo scheduled for Monday afternoon for this hit on Jonathan Ericsson late in the first period of Detroit's 4-2 win in the game that extended their home winning streak to a record-tying 20 consecutive games.

Rinaldo received a two-minute minor for charging on the play.

Even though a hearing is scheduled that doesn't mean a suspension is guaranteed, as it could also result in a fine or warning, or perhaps even nothing at all.

That said, the fact that Rinaldo was fined twice just last week probably isn't going to help him going in.

Rinaldo has hearing for hit on Jonathan Ericsson

Rinaldo deserved a suspension for his hit on Bortuzzo that left him with a concussion.

If he gets one for this hit, call it a make up call.

You live on the edge, you have to expect that you might get away with some hits and get called for others that weren't as bad as the ones you got away with.

I couldn't think of the Red Wing player that drilled Briere in my earlier post, thanks to whoever mention Kronwall, but if you call a penalty on Rinaldo's hit, Kronwall's hit should have been a penlaty too.  For the record, I thought both hits were clean, hard hits.

Kronwall has left his feet plenty of times but the Briere hit was clean imo.   Besides, Shanny has to make up for hammering Smith so bad a few months ago so even if he left his feet, like he did a few games ago, nothing will happen for a while.

Rinaldo is an idiot and should be suspended for that alone.   In any type of close call, he lost the benefit of the doubt months ago.

What I find Ironic is Kronwall left his feet and jumped backwards into unsuspecting Danny Briere but no Call. Just as dangerous IMO. Neither player saw it coming, both offenders left their feet. Both players hit other players in vulnuable postions why the double standard? Oh that's right Shanny is a RedWing.

you cant leave your feet to hit an apponent. hence the charging call.
if you look back at the hit, it is apparant that rinaldo made contact with erricsons chin.
it wasnt a knockout hit, but it still a hit the league is trying to rid from the game!

maybe a fine, but i dont see a suspension comming!

I don't see the penalty here, and I hate the Flyers, but c'mon! Let them play!

Shoulder to shoulder or shoulder to chest is clean. Like previous poster, keep your head up.  And if its a penalty, maybe interference, but not charging. He didn't leave his feet or slam him into the boards.  Last time I checked, this is a major contact sport.

LET'S GO RANGERS!!

A fine or suspension would just be an absolute joke in this case. Clean hit, they might as well jsut let them play the game like the All-Star Game.  But of course because of the Flyers reputation Rinaldo will get the harshest penalty.

Didn't see any problem with this hit.  Redwing player is looking at his pass instead of where he is going, keep your head up.  Rinaldo hit the guy in the should/chest.  Red Wing guy had a very similar hit a few minutes later and no penalty, why?
