Steelers Draft Board

Maybe I missed him somewhere in this list but Sean Smith (CB/S Utah) should be our #1 target in round 1.  There's a decent chance he's gone by pick 32, but if he's there, he's a must get.  With his size, speed, and athleticism, he would be a perfect Steelers kind of guy.   He would be flexible enough to play either corner or safety is we're looking to improve at FS or just add depth at corner since we don't know how the D will look without McFadden.  When I watched his film, he just looked like a guy who wants to be physical and has the size to help in the run game, or drop back in a deep zone with the speed to cover a lot of area.  If he's there, take him.

Brandon Gibson , WR, Washington State - I was so impressed with his hands and route running in Mobile, that I think he is a player in the NFL thanks to his strong work ethic. If he times in the mid 4.5s, so what? Separation in the NFL is about quickness and route running. Gibson isn't a deep threat, but he has the athleticism to be a starter.

Brandon Gibson, Washington State
Height: 6-0. Weight: 204.
Projected 40 Time: 4.47.
Projected Round (2009): 3.

1/4/09: One of the very few shining lights in Washington State's dead program, Brandon Gibson compiled 57 catches, 673 yards and two touchdowns in 2008.

10/19/08: You can't blame Brandon Gibson for the disaster in Pullman this year. Gibson had 10 catches and 103 yards against Oregon on Sept. 27, but hasn't done much since.

5/22/08: Despite missing one game last year, Brandon Gibson had 67 receptions, 1,180 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior. He'll only be 21 when the 2009 NFL Draft rolls around, so that's definitely a plus.

Jarron Gilbert, San Jose State
Height: 6-5. Weight: 280.
Projected 40 Time: 5.15.
Projected Round (2009): 3-4.

11/23/08: Jarron Gilbert has terrorized quarterbacks this year. Through 11 games, Gilbert has 47 tackles, 21.5 TFL, nine sacks and three passes broken up.

5/9/08: Jarron Gilbert had 7.5 TFL, four sacks and four passes broken up as a junior.

I agree with steelers=sb about Gartrell Johnson RB from Colrado State. Mentioned this guy to nybites last night.

In bowl game against Fresno State he rushed for 285 yards and added 90 receiving! Big back that runs downhill. Can outrun people run he gets going. I'm sure that he'll be compared to Bettis by more than a few.

He's not showing up on anyone's front page of mock drafts, so I would consider this guy a great pick during the mid to later rounds.

The Steelers have had a good history in drafting from both Colorado State and CU.

Steelers Draft Board

Jason Williams, Western Illinois is a guy that some of the local Bears fans are raving about. "named to the FCS all-american team as well as tying the national record for forced fumbles in a career (in all divisions), this guy could be one that excels in Lovie's system, and if not, this guy does know how to tackle." DeAndre Levy, Wisconsin is an athletic guy with good size & times.  Showed vast improvements over the last season and a half.

Jason Phillips, TCU was the QB of the nations #1 Defense.

Derek Nicholson, Florida State he is a very underrated LB and his times don't impress, but was a stud for Florida State... what more do you need???

Scratch Pat White and add Jaison Williams. He's just faster then Barden.

Also adding Kevin Kelly as an undrafted guy. Why? I just like him.
