Owners can't agree on opening books

Posted on: March 10, 2011 11:40 am

There is just one day left before a possible NFL Armageddon and a crucial event has happened within the past 24 hours.

There are some NFL owners who want to completely open the league's financial books to the union, CBSSports.com has learned.

The problem is other NFL owners are refusing.

So the stalling in the talks has happened because one set of owners desires to open their books and others do not, a source explains. Thus ownership is stuck trying to find a way to mend these differences.

If ownership can, and the books are opened, a deal could likely be reached quite quickly.

That's where we are now. Ownership is arguing amongst itself.

Incredible, isn't it?

It's virtually impossible for ownership to reach a consensus on this issue by the Friday evening deadline so unless another extension is agreed upon, the lockout/decertification will happen then.

This is getting interesting. Right down to the wire.

Owners can't agree on opening books

We've already seen evidence of the owners manipulating TV and marketing contracts in their favor, so the answer is pretty much a given. The money flows through the owners' hands first. They can and will maneuver contract deals when the opportunity arises.

Even the lower tier football players get 200-500K in salary, to play football!

ANOTHER WAY OF SAYING THIS WOULD BE..."Even the lower tier football players get 200-500K in salary, to shorten their lives, lower their quality of living post retirement, and risk serious injury or worse on a weekly basis."

if you told your boss to open his books because he said he was losing money, you would be in the unemployment line so fast it would not be funny, and i dont think some judge will be lined up to help you. the players are just employies if they dont like it get another job. the whole thing about getting hust is bullshit, no one is forcing they to play they made that choice on their own

ARE YOU REALLY THIS STUPID? SERIOUSLY? GO GENERATE A FEW BILLION DOLLARS IN REVENUE AND THEN SEE HOW BAD YOUR BOSS WANTS TO KEEP YOU. STOP COMPARING YOUR $10 AN HOUR JOB AT WALMART TO THAT OF A PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE WHO HELPS GENERATE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS A YEAR FOR HIS ORGANIZATION.

THE players are NOT paying the owners a DIME, the money flow is from the owners TO the players

You are correct sir, but you fail to recognize that its the players who are the reason the owners have the money to pay them(at least when it comes to football). Would you go pay $100 a game to sit in an empty stadium for 3 hours and stare at an empty field? I didnt think so. You expect to be entertained when you pay that kind of money. Do you think the league(and thus the owners) would make that money without the entertainment (the players)?  The players are necessary to have a league. The owners are necessary if the players want to get paid. THEY NEED EACHOTHER. But if you had to pick which would ruin the league more...no players or no owners...is it really a choice?

STRIKE THE NFL

The Fans should start striking at football games because the prices of all nfl goods are ridiculous. If "we the people" started giving our opinions, the players and owners would strike a deal immediately. LET'S STRIKE THE NFL! How bout they stop ripping off our children selling them foriegn made jerseys for $275. Come on people we can give up our fantasy football for awhile and let them hear how we feel. It's sickening hearing these people cry about making millions and billions. STRIKE THE NFL! we need to organize, does anybody have ideas?

Doesn't matter if they open the books or not the players won't give an inch and that is what will kill the game.  For some reason the players think they have entitlement.  Everytime Smith opens his mouth his claim is that is not wat we want. I know these talks are supposed to be under wraps but they have not totally but what has been said sofar indcates this is a one-sided negotiation.

For some reason you think that they dont. You pay to watch the owners count their money, I'll pay to watch the players play football. Have fun...

Hey I notice you have a Lion's logo, so you are from my neck of the woods..  So you are one of those Republican Slappies that think Bush did not put the country in the state it is in.  And I see you are also siding with the Owners as well...  So I know you voted Snyder in you bum...  Thinkin Oboma is setting the country back and Bush did not, really shows your ignorance.  Also thinking the Owners are right about going back on an agreed CBA by both them and the players in regards to the biggest issue the "9 Billion",  plotting for a lock out with 4 billion stashed and then lost the judges ruling to keep that money due to unfair tactics, REALLY SHOWS YOU ARE AN IDIOT...

Get A Life YOU TOOL!!!
