The players and owners might begin mediation as soon as late next week, two sources confirmed to CBSSports.com.

Where the mediation will be held is still in question. It could be back under the control of mediator George Cohen or under federal jurisdiction in Minnesota. The former is what the owners want and the latter is the desire of the players. Cohen has yet to return a call to CBSSports.com.

One source texted: "We're reaching a pivotal moment."

That's because another round of mediation could finally end the lockout and start the season. Sources on both sides felt a second round of mediation might lead to a deal.

Another source explained Judge Susan Nelson has said in no uncertain terms she wants both sides to try and work out an agreement. Nelson doesn't seem to be fooling around. The reason mediation has a chance is because she will be monitoring it closely and won't put up with any silliness.

"We got the message," said one source.

Yawn.........let the owners have a year with no revenue and let the players go out and earn a living in construction, auto sales, retail, or any career that doesn't make them instant millionaires. Enough is enough....

My question is this:  why the HELL did they leave mediation in the first place?!?!?!

Because they weren't sitting across a bargaining table from each other?  Well, sorry, THAT'S NOT HOW MEDIATION WORKS.  Mediation is a long process, and they would be much further along in that process if the union hadn't "decertified" -- I don't understand how that becomes the owners' faults.

The union "decertified", and that action forced the owners to lock out the players.  Now the players are fighting the owners on that?  Their "decerfication" directly influenced it!

This is a bunch of b.s.  I'm tired of reading about it already.

Too bad the mediator wasn't George M Cohan, he'd have these owners and players marching to a different tune.

NFL, players to start mediation again

What did they think the message would be. It ceases to amaze me that we have to waste tax payer money so they could get the message to mediate this thing to conclusion. I'm curious if a deal  will be reached before the judge rules. I know the owners probablly don't. The good thing is if she does rule and it is in favor of the players as it sounds like it is we may not see a stopage again as it will go to an uncapped season.
