NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently wrote to the Congressional Black Caucus. Here is the letter in its entirety and presented without comment. Retired NFL player Jeff Nixon received a copy of the letter and sent it to CBSSports.com.

Roger Goodell letter

This letter was as detailed as it needed to be and answered every concern that a Congressional committee would need.  I think the bigger question that is not being asked and that needs to be asked of our Congressmen and women all the time is:  why are you sticking your nose into something that you do not need to be.  Perhaps it would be better if you concentrated on passing a budget, reducing the deficit and bringing our troops home from countries that do not want them there?  Perhaps instead of messing around with topics that cannot and will not be "fixed" by your meddling it would be better if you concentrate on reducing unemployment, expanding our economy and helping our country become great again instead of trying to bring us down to where all the other failed socialist experiment countries are?  With that said, get your butts back to the work you were elected to do and stop messing with our sports.

i agree it exists, if it did not there would be no Congressional Black Caucus. that is the problem, how much anger would there be if there were  the Congressional White Caucus. let's get rid of black groups as that is racism.

i am just saying we are at a time where we need to not differenciate between color. you can't have differences and then complain of differences. let's just all be people.

I believe that it’s unfair that there are so many African Americans in the NFL.  Roughly 65% of the NFL players are African American while they only make up 13% of the U.S. population.  European Americans represent 70% of the U.S. population but only 32% of the NFL players are European American.  These unfair labor practices should be stopped; there should be a congressional investigation into this discrimination.  The good news – near 100% of the players in the NFL are Americans.  Can’t we all just get along?

Well, the only proof I saw in this string is proof that there are a few very immature and lewd people here who enjoy to shock and offend people.  They're probably 13 years old.  While there are plenty of racist individuals out there, it's true depth will never be measured on internet sports sites!

the black caucus isn't going to listen to goodell and all the other white billionaires that own teams.  the owners need to start paying the players a lot more money.  Most of the leage is African American and are tired of being told what to do by the white owners and GMs in the plantation system.
You sir, are an idiot.  "Plantation system"?  Really?  I had no idea plantation slaves were so highley paid with excellant medical care.  Look, like it or not the players are employees.  Employees, subject to the terms of their contracts and, in this case, the CBA (which the players negotiated and agreed to) DO WHAT THEIR BOSSES TELL THEM TO DO.  In exchange they get, in the NFL, extremely high salaries.  Guess what, if I get tired of being told what to do by my boss I have options -- look for a new boss and quit my current job, or suck it up and do what I am paid to do.  The players have the same option -- either do what their boss says to do (subject to the limits of their contract) or find a different line of work.

Well that's interesting

The NFL paid $20 million dollars less in pension benefits last year than the 59th largest American city.

What is your point?  Seriously, I cannot tell if you are pointing this out as a good or bad thing.  Myself, I am not surprised that the NFL pays less in pension benefits than 59 American cities -- it is NOT A CITY but a business with likely far fewer former employees claiming pension benefits.  Then, find me 59 American Cities with an annual average salary of over $2million per year and we can talk about how unfair the NFL is.

This is pandering by Goodell. I find it offensive that they feel they even need to reach out to a group like this. They're a group of politicians who aren't united by idealogy or party affiliation, but simply the color of their skin.
Goodell did not "reach out to" the Congressional Black Caucus...if you read his letter, it is in response to a letter received from the Congressional Black Caucus, they "reached out" to Goodell/the NFL.  I don't know about you, but if I am running a multi-billion dollar business that needs/wants anti-trust exemptions, if a congressman writes me I am writing back regardless of what caucus he or she is with.

This situation is so stupid. Its simple, the owners can do whatever they want! Like it or not, its the truth. Its the benefit of being THE OWNER! No one is forcing these men to play. If they dont like it they can get a real job and then see what its really like to make crappy money. Race has nothing to do with this situation. Its about greed. And greed only has one color...GREEN

Wow... for the handful of people left in America that hold to the delusional notion "racism no longer exists in America" they need look no further than the comments to this column. My God... I wish I could say that I'm shocked by some of the comments made here and that they were absolutely amazing. But they are not. They do however serve as PROOF racism still exists... in both the white AND black communities. Unbelievable.
