BCS debuts today

There will be no suspense today in Austin, Tuscaloosa and State College.

Texas, Alabama and Penn State are expected to debut in the top three spots of the first set of BCS standings released today. The order should match that the human polls. All three solidified their spots with victories on Saturday.

No. 1 Texas and No. 3 Penn State did it in convincing fashion while No. 2 Alabama had to survive a rally from Ole Miss.

The order of the teams, though, might end up to be a trivia question. Only once in the previous 10 years have the top two teams in the first BCS standings met for the national championship. Good news for Texas, that was USC and the Longhorns in 2005.

The BCS standings are calculated by averaging the Harris and coaches' polls along with six computer indexes.
