It's done: Nebraska to the Big 11

Posted on: June 11, 2010 2:33 pm

LINCOLN, Neb. -- It's official. Nebraska has joined the Big Ten, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

The story broke online while the board of regents are in executive session upstairs from where we are in the basement of Varner Hall. That means we're going to get a story today.

It's going to be great seeing Michigan and Ohio State come to Memorial Stadium. Purdue and Indiana not so much. Sad day, in a way, I'm sure for Tom Osborne. He wanted to stay in the Big 12. Texas forced his hand.

It's done: Nebraska to the Big 11

I have to say that I find it funny that the Big Ten currently has 12 members, whereas, the Big 12 currently has 10 members. Obviously, this will change in like a week when the Big 12 implodes, but, for now, I find it funny. You've got that right.  It would be weird, if for some dumb reason the Big 12 would remain intact, for the conferences to switch names and logos.....

At this point, I really am getting tired of reading how the Texas legislature is back in session, and will meet again next week, and then next month to decide whatever...Good grief already!  Let's get on with it.  What else are they going to discuss, unless they want to organize a big fishing trip to Lake Texoma, where we'll throw our lines in and see what kind of team we can lure in with our shiny rods and reels.

Forget the legislature....Let the school presidents decide where they want to go, and be done with it.  How could either school be shorted going to the SEC, Big 10 or Pac10 at this point?

It's done: Nebraska to the Big 11

I wish all the best to Nebraska in their endeavors.

Really, though, Dodd needs to stop taking a dump on other schools, and in my case, stop taking a crap on Texas. If Dodd wants to laud Nebraska's storied tradition, then that's fine. In the meantime, stop trying to push everyone else down. A school's prestige stands on its own, without needing to sully others.

Blame all of this on ND

For those of you who don't like all of the conference realignment, I think you look no further than ND for blame.  Had they entered into some serious discussion with the BIG TEN, ultimately realizing that it was best for their long-term viability and joined the conference, none of this would be going on.  With the addition of Notre Dame, the BIG TEN would have had thier play-off system in place and the madness would all be over.  Because ND thinks that they are bigger than the system, the BIG TEN was forced to go and poach somewhere else and now the domino's are in full motion.  Bring on the Huskers.  They are a great addtion to the conference.

Currently...

Let me get this straight, with Colorado and Nebraska leaving, currently....
the Big Ten has 12 teams , and the Big 12 has ten ...???

The real question is where does this end, and can the Big Ten hide a '16' in their logo as nicely as the worked in the '11'?

It's done: Nebraska to the Big 11

Getting well wishes from a long time rival in Okalahoma.....now this is what the Big 8/Big 12 was all about.  Texas came in and ruined things so unfortunately the Conference will now dissolve.  But thanks to Tom Osborne for making the tough, yet best decision for the program.
I wish things could have gone differently but Texas forced the hand.
Regardless, good luck to Oklahoma as well, and may we meet again soon!

It's done: Nebraska to the Big 11

Really tired of all the Purdue bashing Dodds! Does Nebraska have a Basketball team? And what has Nebraska done in Football lately? Not exactly the 90's powerhouse they once were... I guess Purdue beating Ohio State and Michigan in Football doesn't mean anything...

It's done: Nebraska to the Big 11

This just goes to show all people that in college sports, no difference than any business, the dollar is the main priority. Tradition, rivalries, the past years are all secondary. I have no right to judge, but it really seems a little sad. I remember when Ga. Tech left the Southeastern Conference many years ago, the same thing here. People will still follow their favorite teams, and the younger generation will no very little about the past glorious days. New coaches, players, and fans will enjoy the games still. Life goes on.

It's done: Nebraska to the Big 11

I hope not.  Nebraska is now the lowest ranked academic institution on the Big 10, and Missouri is ranked lower than Nebraska, but doesn't come with the blue chip football program.  Hopefully the Big 10 can lure Notre Dame and Texas.
