A look in at the terps

Well It's January and my football team was knocked out of the first round of the playoffs by the freakin jets...You know what that means, the 85 percent I had been commiting to NCAA basketball is now up to 100 percent!!! Anyone who knows me knows my team is the Maryland Terrapins and I'm just going to talk a little bit about them today.

With only about a month left untill the big dance, Maryland is looking to position themselves to make it in. As of now it looks pretty good, too. After coming out of the gate and going 5-3, they have really hit stride by going 8-2 in their last 10. Even those 3 early season losses were pretty good ones. they were handled pretty well by Cinci and Wisconsin but come tournament time I'd rather have those losses, coupled with the game they really could have won against Villanova than some of our losses in recent years (American and Morgan state come to mind). Oh and don't get me started on that Wake Forest game....With last nights blowout of NC State I really feel like this team is coming together, GV is playing much more mature basketball, Hayes is fitting in well in his role of shooting three's, Jordan Williams is coming into his own, and Milbourne is no slouch either. I feel like this team can and will get in to the tourney come March time and can really make a splash. I mean, hey look, we may even win the ACC. It's not like anyone is reaching up and taking it for themselves yet except for one team....Who could that be. Oh yeah! The Terps!

A look in at the terps

I am an out and out fan of Terp B Ball.  However today they were pathetic.  Against any kind of competition they should have lost by 20.  Cannot believe it was as close as it was.  Clemson is pathetic, now I saw today VT lost to a terrible Miami team.

Just maybe the ACC is as weak as everyone is saying.  Well if it is, Terps can still win it.

A look in at the terps

No question Terps are coming on.  It is interesting with GV.  Last year and beginning of this year team kept looking to GV.  When he couldn't hit in first 8 games they lost 3.  Lost WF as well.  THings have significantly changed in last 10 games and they are blowing teams out.

Now when GV isn't doing it, Mosely is.  Hayes steps up and then you have those guys off bench called Bowie and Tucker.  All contributing big time.  In several games recently GV has scored 2-3 points by half.  He has matured to point (Maybe its WIlliams control) he starts feeding to the others during these spells.  You notice they have established leads (big ones) without his score.  In several he has done his scoring when game decided.  Mosely is playing like an all star.  Rebounds, steals, points.  Tucker getting better and better.

You noticed I have only addressed guards so far.  Other teams must come out and all of a sudden that young guy Williams (will be all ACC before carreer is over) starts controlling rim.  ANd then the best player on team takes over.  Milbourne.  He does everything.

Williams has very very strong 8 man rotation.  Haven't seen that in any other team in ACC.  Maybe Syracuse and Villanova in Big East.  No one else is 5 deep at guard.

Let's stop getting hung up on value of GV.  He is valuable, no doubt.  Team has many other strong points.  I see them taking conference and no. 2 seed.  Am I dreaming?

Maryland does not have a shot at beating the big teams but could get into the Sweet 16 if they get good match ups in the first 2 rounds. They are not a bad team but are not that great of a team. It all depends on GV if he can share the ball and let the game come to him they are a good team, but when he thinks he has to do everything then that is where they are not that great. Maryland needs to go 10-6 in ACC play and win their first ACC tourney game they might get a 5 or 6 seed but if they finish 8-8 then they are on the bubble and might get a 8 or 9 seed. Jordan Williams has to be a rock inside and that is asking a lot from a freshmen, and if he continues to be play well then Maryland could finish 10-6.

That really depends, right now they need to focus on continue the upward trend. If they can improve gradually throughout the rest of the year then this team could really surprise you. Probably not built for a final four run maybe not even an elite 8 run but I think a sweet 16 birth wouldn't be out of the question. And believe me, I couldn't have said that prior to ACC play.

What do you give the Terps chances at winning the big show come March time? Do you see them beating a Texas or a Kentucky?
