I want to leave work early!

Posted on: April 8, 2008 4:48 pm

On most days, especially a day like today when it is sunny and 75, I want to leave work to go to a ballgame, play a round of golf, meet up with my wife for a nooner, or just lounge around the house doing nothing in particular.

Today was a bit different though. I have already mentioned how nice it is today and believe me, the thought crossed my mind to take half the day off and go swing the crooked sticks. But I called my wife to see if she had made it home yet. When she answered, I could hear my son in the background talking. My wife put me on speaker phone and he was saying, "Play ballgame with daddy!"
I was ready to walk out the door when my boss came in and told me that I had to get a project done before the end of the day. So here I am, stuck at work, and wanting to be elsewhere. But for one of the first times, it's not to do something for me.
Having kids and them growing up will do that to ya.

To all of the people in this world who take that day when they can and spend as much QT with their kids as possible, my hat is off to you. It's great to be a parent.

I want to leave work early!

One is my wife, the other three are my mistresses....lol

No, they are Sacremento Kings Cheerleaders. there was an article I found one day while looking for pictures of Erin Andrews for another message board challenge and I stumbled across them. I must admit, it was a good find.

BTW...

Nice AV. Is your wife one of those? If so, I pat you on the back, my friend.

I want to leave work early!

Hey, enjoy your son. We have 5 and to be able to even IMAGINE talking time out for just one of them is tough. My wife and I try to schedule in individual time with weith each kid around softball, soccer, dance, school, etc...

I would never trade my kids in for anything, but having a single child home is like owning a rare, expensive sports car. You have your beater that you drive to work and on errands and dream about a nice sunny day with nothing else to do when you can get out the sportscar.

I want to leave work early!

You both sound like you're very lucky and have great kids! Cherish these days, because time finds a way to slip past you. My son is now 18 and I know in my heart that I haven't spent as much QT with him as I'd have liked over the years. Being in the Army (just went over 20 years this past January) eats up most of my day (out the door when its dark and back home when its dark). That's not even bringing in the part about deployments (I just got back last July from spending a year in Korea) and moving every 3 years.

Sorry, the point to my rambling is that if you don't find a way to take the time now, you may also look back and wonder where the time went. That's a feeling that you don't want...trust me.

I want to leave work early!

Thanks 1999. We actually got to go to the park for about an hour and a half last night. That served two purposes. They had fun running all over the place, and I enjoyed seeing them laughing and smiling. Also, they wore themselves out and went to bed at a decent hour and slept all night. Turned out to be an ok day after I finally finished work.

I want to leave work early!

I know what you mean. I have two boys (1 year old and a two year old) and I enjoy spending as much time with them as I can. I hate that I have to work my butt off all day and then only get a few hours in the evening. All of the good outside time is pretty much eaten up by the time you make it home and you are stuck doing responsibilities (feeding, bathing, etc...) all evening with them instead of playing outside. Sounds like you are a great parent. Keep up the good work. I know if the weather stays nice I will be taking a half day or a sick day (If you know what I mean) to spend some time with my boys.

I will drink a special mason jar of shine for you this evening. Here is to our kids!!!!!!
