• It sounds like the relationship between Jets coach Rex Ryan and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine is complicated. As is their decision to both call defensive plays during games.

• It seems that there might be a communication problem between Ravens QB Joe Flacco, offensive coordinator Cam Cameron and QB coach Jim Zorn. Baltimore should think about fixing that .

• Speaking of the Ravens, they’re eventually going to talk to LB Ray Lewis about his alleged involvement with a supplement that might contain a banned substance. Said GM Ozzie Newsome: "Ray is one person that I think that we all can talk to, and he'll explain any and everything to us about what he's doing [and] why he's doing it.

• Do you remember that tiny thing that happened last month when the Metrodome’s roof collapsed? Yeah, so pretty soon, the people in charge are going to have to figure out what to do about it.

• Mean Gene Okerlund weighed in on Bart Scott’s post-game rant last Sunday. Said Mean Gene: “On a scale of one to 10, I would give him an eight. A good interview has to create emotion. You can do that through love or hate, or just by entertaining people, and he does that.”

• Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger prefers not to live in the past. Especially if someone asks him about his off-field, off-season transgressions and his four-game suspension to start the season.

• An interesting perspective about the city (Indianapolis) that is scheduled to host next year’s Super Bowl. What happens if there is no season?

• ESPN.com’s Paul Kuharsky was not impressed with the way Titans coach Jeff Fisher handled the firing of defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil. Especially since the team will have to pay Cecil for 2011 though he won’t be working for Tennessee.

• Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti lays down the gauntlet for new OL coach Andy Moeller: there better not be any more alcohol-related incidents, or you’ll be fired.

• Can Steelers rookie C Maurkice Pouncey compete with the Jets’ complicated defensive schemes? New York’s Shaun Ellis thinks he might have trouble. Pouncey doesn’t necessarily agree.

• Jim Caldwell called a really dumb timeout against the Jets. It might have cost his team a chance to continue advancing in the playoffs. But Bill Polian doesn't think so, and he called the timeout a "moot point" on his radio show Monday, according to Big Blue Shoe at Stampede Blue. More interesting though -- Polian offered a different reason for the timeout -- he said the defense was trying to get set. That's certainly more rational than Caldwell's "we wanted to make them snap the ball" excuse, but then Polian apparently went off on a tangent about how he thought the Colts were done after Antonio Cromartie's return, barring an interception, fumble or sack. Which, um, well, no -- Nick Folk needed a 50-plus-yard field goal to win before the deep ball to Braylon Edwards. So, yeah, this timeout thing's getting awkward.

• Speaking of awkward head coaches, Wade Phillips thinks he's probably done as a head coach, because of "perception." Which is actually a good point, because Wade's 82-61 as a head coach, and yet people think he's a goof, mainly because of his 1-5 playoff record. Poor Wade.

• James Starks "definitely deserves the opportunity\" to run the ball this week, according to Mike McCarthy. Um, duh.

• Running through the Eagles offseason to-do list and, unfortunately, it appears they still need a defensive end. Which is exactly what they needed last year.

• Perhaps the Ravens, with an increasing market value for franchise quarterbacks, should go ahead and give Joe Flacco some more money.

• Derek Anderson, who takes things very seriously, got into a Twitter war with a bunch of fans and/or bloggers during Monday night's BCS game. Really freaking weird.

• Matt Hasselbeck's had his knee drained three times since he first injured it on December 26. Ew.

• According to the Kansas City Star, Chris Chambers will be saying adios to the Chiefs after this year.

• Shawne Merriman's down with the Bills drafting Cam Newton. If that helps Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey at all.

• Ben Roethlisberger said on a conference call Tuesday that he knows the Ravens weren't TRYING to break his nose.
