As great as Cam Newton played for the national-title winning Auburn Tigers last season, nobody is really sure exactly how kosher his recruitment to the Plains was (in case you need a recap, you can click on this USA Today story from November).
For now, Newton has been cleared of any wrongdoing (his father, though, might be a different story), but his past continues to follow him as he auditions for a potential spot as the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft (there’s also an issue of a stolen laptop and a report of academic cheating while he was at Florida).
Even though there’s a pretty good chance the Panthers will call Newton’s name at around 8 p.m. next Thursday, he still, in the eyes of many, has questions attached to him.
Thus, we present to you the website camnewtonliedetector.com, in which the creator issues an open call for Newton to take a lie detector test.
The website claims Newton has 1,000,001 reasons to take the test, because if he can legitimately answer “no” to four questions*, somebody will pay him $1 million**.
*Most of them are about whether he knew his dad allegedly had tried to obtain a large sum of money from Mississippi State for Cam Newton’s services.
**The other reason is, more or less, to clear his name.
Of course, there’s no chance Newton will jump at this opportunity, but still, it’s (somewhat) fun to fantasize about the results if he actually did.
