Some things to think about

A nice debut from Dan Pompei in the National Football Post . He has a couple of interesting comments that I hadn’t thought about previously.

Like, how did Tennessee QB Vince Young perform in the offseason, aside from his dust-up at the strip club? Hint: he threw only two combined interceptions during OTAs and minicamp.

Like, what happens to the assistant coaches and the scouts if there is a lockout next year? Hint: paycuts for many between 25 and 50 percent. Yet, the scouts have to keep working during the lockout for less pay.

Like, how good a deal did the Bears get by drafting Harvey Unga in the seventh round of the supplemental draft? Hint: considering many scouts think he could have been the eight running back taken in the NFL Draft, which would have been the third round, the transaction was significant.

It’s a good read. Check it out on a lazy Sunday morning.

Goodell to meet with Vince Young

Roger Goodell has plans to speak with Vince Young, though it won’t necessarily be in a face-to-face meeting. This, according to NFL VP of communications, Michael Signora. It was originally reported that Goodell said a suspension for the Titans quarterback was “unlikely”. However, according to Pro Football Talk, Signora clarified that what Goodell was saying was that a suspension for conduct policy violations usually pertain to repeat offenders. Young is not a repeat offender.

Don’t expect a suspension, or even a high-profile meeting. At the same time, don’t expect the media to simply let this story blow over.

Goodell pondering QBs

It looks like Eagles QB Michael Vick is clear of any legal problems regarding the shooting that occurred during his birthday party last week. Commissioner Roger Goodell is another story.

According to Foxsports.com’s Alex Marvez , Goodell said he’s still gathering facts about the Vick shooting, and although the Virginia Beach police department has told the NFL that Vick is not a focus of the investigation, Goodell said, “Obviously, we’ve got to look and see whether there was any violation of policy.”

Goodell also said he’ll meet in the next couple weeks with Tennessee QB Vince Young, who was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault after he allegedly was involved in a fight at a strip club. According to Marvez, Goodell acknowledged that, for a first-time offender like Young, he’s unlikely to receive an NFL suspension.

Martellus Bennett Tweets Apology To Vince Young

Yesterday we mentioned that Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett had a harsh Tweet for Vince Young. Today, Bennett, like Young, finds himself making apologies:

"I would like to apologize I wasn't trying to make the headlines or anything when I responded to a tweet asking what I thought about VYs ... Situation. Didn't wanna draw anymore negative attn to it. And for that I'm sorry. I wasn't tryna rip vince or anything I was jus saying ... Didn't think it was the rgt decision. Making several stupid ones myself I know how it is. I have nothing but love for the homie. ... Don't regret what I said jus nvr wanna make anyone elses situation worse."

Bennett issued this apology over multiple Tweets. In case you don’t already know, here’s the Tweet from yesterday that he is apologizing for:

"Mann I dunno wat 2 say abt VY that was childish & very unprofessional u cant do [expletive] like that when u play qb. He needs better ppl round him."

Another one for the Titans

It’s not been what you’d call a great last two days for the Titans. First, QB Vince Young. Now, LB Gerald McRath.

Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher said today that McRath has been suspended for the first four games of the regular season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

McRath told the Tennessean that he didn’t take a steroid.

"I have no idea," he told the newspaper. "… I didn’t test positive for a steroid … None of the products I took were on the banned list.’’

Thank you Vince Young

Obviously, when you start a brand-new NFL Facts and Rumors blog, you want to get off on the right foot by immediately linking to grainy surveillance footage of a famous QB detailing exactly why police felt the need to issue him a citation for assault at a strip club. All last week, I worried just how I was going to pull off this rite of passage. Which quarterback could I count on to get in trouble just in time for this blog's debut?

Luckily, Tennessee's Vince Young came through with the assist, receiving a Class C Assault Citation from Dallas police after jumping the manager of the club at 3 a.m. Sunday morning. You can see that surveillance footage here , courtesy of WKRN in Nashville.

Apparently, the manager of the club insulted Young by flashing the "Hook Em Horns" sign upside down. That's on the same level of biting your thumb at an adversary during Shakespearean times, so obviously, Young is in the right here. You can't go around disrespecting people's alma maters without expecting a punch in the face in return. Especially if there are naked girls dancing all around. The manager is just lucky Young didn't challenge him to a duel.
