Vince Young officially released by Titans

Posted by Will Brinson

We all knew that it was coming, and we all knew that it was likely coming on "Bloody Thursday" (the NFL's waiver wire opened his afternoon), but now it's official: Vince Young is no longer a Titan, having been released by Tennessee.

"We reached out to Vince, Tony [Brown] and their agents today to inform them of their release," Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt said in a statement released by the team. "As we have said since January, it was time for us to go in a different direction at quarterback and we have done that. As for Tony, his body just hasn’t allowed him to play like he has in the past despite his best efforts.

"Both of these players have been productive for us, and we appreciate their contributions to our team through the years."

The immediate speculation circulating for Young's next landing spot centers on the Eagles, who recently traded Kevin Kolb, as Philadelphia could certainly be in the market for a project-type quarterback with upside to backup Michael Vick. (Our own Clark Judge agrees, having floated the idea out there earlier on Twitter.)

After that, people will wonder if Young could end up with the Dolphins, who are clearly in the market for a quarterback, being heavily rumored as suitors for Denver's Kyle Orton.

In fact, Young might be the red herring that brings Orton's price down -- if Miami can convince Denver that they'll walk away from Orton and just go with Young, it's entirely possible the Broncos could drop the price on their would-be starter.

Regardless, it's clear that Young's potential future success has many folks divided. But that won't keep him from getting a shot somewhere.
