Donald Driver on 'Dancing With the Stars'

Driver was already a fan favorite before appearing on 'Dancing With the Stars.' (US Presswire)
By Will Brinson

It's apparently an aging wide receiver tradition to appear on Dancing With the Stars these days: Donald Driver of the Green Bay Packers will fill the "football slot" on the 14th season of ABC's inexplicably popular reality show about famous people dancing.

The announcement was made on Good Morning America Tuesday, and Driver will join a group of folks that includes Jack Wagner of "Melrose Place," Jaleel White of "Family Matters," and Melissa Gilbert of "Little House on the Prairie." (This was a white-hot group in 1999.)

Drivers, who recently re-worked his contract with the Packers, will be paired with professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd, who's returning for her second season as a pro on DWTS.

He'll look to follow in the footsteps of Steelers wideout Hines Ward, who won Season 12 of DWTS. Jason Taylor, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Warren Sapp, Chad Ochocinco, Kurt Warner and Jerry Rice have all appeared on the show previously.

Victor Cruz turns down 'Dancing With the Stars'

By Will Brinson

Victor Cruz made a name for himself this season by piling up ridiculous receiving stats and emerging as the Giants biggest weapon in the passing game (even if he did get passed over for a first-team All-Pro award).

He also made enough waves with his trademark post-touchdown Salsa dance that he was invited on "Dancing With the Stars."

However, according to our Giants Rapid Reporter Alex Raskin, the wideout turned down the show's offer.

"I kind of knew it was coming, but you don't really know until it comes," Cruz said Friday, via Newsday. "I just want to be focused on football and focused on what's to come and I'm just not at the point in my career where I feel like I need to do that."

It's a smart move by Cruz, considering that he's not exactly sitting on a monster contract. He makes under $500,000 and won't become a free agent until after 2013.

Not only could he get hurt, but treating football as priority No. 1 will go a long way towards showing the Giants he's serious about improving his game, justifying his 2011 season and the belief that he's developing into one of the top receivers in the game.

Besides, if Cruz performs in the playoffs and 2012 at the same level as he did on 2011, then he'll be too big-time to even worry about DTWS.

Ward, Johnson recover from neck injury on 'DWTS'

Posted by Will Brinson

Hines Ward and his Dancing With the Stars partner Kym Johnson had an emotional moment during Monday's episode, as they relived a terrifying rehearsal incident in which Ward fell on Johnson as she was curled up underneath him and all of her weight pressed on her neck.

"It was a difficult move," Ward said. "I was supposed to swing her through my legs and lift her up and all my weight just came down on the back of her neck."

It's an absolute cringe-worthy moment, and it's pretty impressive that Johnson was able to come back and dance on Monday.

Even more impressive? The couple scored a perfect 30 on their opening Tango. Which, I'm told, is like beating the Ravens 75-14 in the playoffs.

Hines Ward on newest 'Dancing with the Stars'

Posted by Will Brinson

It wouldn't be a fast-paced news day in the NFL world if we couldn't drop some "Dancing With the Stars" knowledge, so here you go: Hines Ward will be appearing on the next season of the [somehow] popular reality television show.

That's according to TMZ, who reports that Ward, along with Sugar Ray Leonard, will be the famous athletes that grace the competition's field this season.

But wait! There's more! Reportedly, Ralph Macchio, aka the Karate Kid, will also be on the roster of "Stars."

Ward's obviously an outstanding athlete -- he's excelled at every level of football, but you have to wonder if, at this stage of his career, whether he's an elite dancer, or just a possession receiver.

Okay, but in all non-terrible joke-related news, there's a pretty good chance that Ward, who obviously has pretty good feet and will probably could succeed on the show -- history's shown that football players typically do well in these events, so it wouldn't be shocking to see Ward do the same.
