Entering the game today vs. the Bengals, the Broncos were short on healthy wide receivers. With Brandon Lloyd (groin) and Demaryius Thomas (finger) inactive, Denver had only Eddie Royal, Eric Decker and Matt Willis. Tim Tebow – everybody’s favorite third-string quarterback – was listed as the emergency wide receiver.
That last point is key, because midway through the first half, Royal injured his groin, leaving coach John Fox to send Tebow out to the field as a receiver. Seriously. And though it was completely uneventful, it was still kind of awesome nonetheless.
On his first play at receiver, a third and 10, Tebow lined up in the slot to Kyle Orton’s right, and Orton handed off for a short gain. On the next series, Orton hit Decker for a nice gain on the first play, but he fumbled the ball to the Bengals.
But Tebow got a big cheer on the play he was out there, and since this will be big news -- especially if he does something spectacular (like catch a pass!!!) -- we’ll keep you updated if there is big news Tebow-wise the rest of the day.
