Though he hasn’t made any official announcement, his coach seems pretty adamant that Buccaneers CB Ronde Barber will return for another season.
At least, that’s the impression Tampa Bay coach Raheem Morris gave Tuesday.
"Yes, he's coming back and I'm fired up about it," Morris told the Tampa Tribune. "I've got a lot of confidence in him. It's just a matter of him and (general manager) Mark Dominik getting together and coming to an agreement.''
Replied Barber, whose contract is up in March, in a text message to the paper: "That's just my good buddy, Rah, being my good buddy, Rah. You know for a fact that he wants me back. I haven't said no, that's for sure.''
If this is it for Barber, he can retire knowing he’s had a standout 14-year career. He’s played his entire career with the Buccaneers, and he’s the only NFL player in history with at least 40 sacks and 25 interceptions.
Obviously, he’s not quite as sprightly at the age of 35 as he was at 25, but Barber still plays well enough to handle a starting CB role for Tampa Bay (though he’ll have to fight to keep that spot with E.J. Biggers and Myron Lewis continuing to improve).
