With the Texans locked into the No. 3 seed in the AFC and Jeff Garcia inactive, we were all but guaranteed to see some Jake Delhomme action for Houston in Week 17's matchup against Tennessee. But there's no way Gary Kubiak wanted Delhomme to come in because of a T.J. Yates injury, which is what happened against the Titans.
Though the team hasn't officially announced what the injury is, it's believed that Yates took a blow to the head and may have suffered a concussion.
Yates is currently walking on the Texans sideline without his helmet and Delhomme's under center. (Delhomme went 2/4 for a whopping six yards on his first two series in for Houston.)
Oddly enough, the Texans tweeted that Yates "is back on the sideline and is fine, but QB Jake Delhomme is still playing in the game." In other words, it sounds like Yates injury has been diagnosed but they're just not releasing it yet.
Yates is on the sideline with a baseball cap and this game doesn't matter at all for Houston, so putting him back in would seem to be slightly, ahem, aggressive on the Texans part.
Per CBS Sports Charley Casserly, the Texans are saying that it's a "coach's decision" to keep Delhomme in the game and that it's not an injury sidelining Yates.
