Joe Namath says 'Hard Knocks' was a mistake

Posted by Will Brinson

On Friday, Joe Namath hosted the first edition of "Broadway Blitz," his own show on Sirius NFL radio. We wrote about said show on Thursday , and said "there's almost a near guarantee that we'll be discussing his comments here at some point in the next few weeks."

In hindsight, we were wrong. CLEARLY, it wasn't going to take that long for Namath to say something on the air that gets everyone all rabble-rabbled up. In fact, on Friday, the former Jets quarterback dropped this little ditty, via Pro Football Talk , when Adam Schein asked him if "Hard Knocks" was a mistake:

"I think so," Namath said. "I think it is for any team that's going to work to do their best to get to be their best. It's what we call 'distractions.' You're going to spend more time away from thinking about your position, your job, and the details of it when you've got other things going on around you that you're partaking in. It has to be a distraction and you can't have spent as much time on your mental preparation and homework as you would have without the distractions. So, yeah, I don't think it was a positive."

He also went on to discuss Mark Sanchez ("the only flaw is his age and experience at this point" -- hrrrrrrrrrrrrm) and the Patriots, who he called a "stronger team," before declining to actually confirm that the Pats defense was better this year.

All-in-all, Namath's review of his boys was significantly less enthusiastic than a Jets fan would probably want -- then again, if there's been anyone praising the Jets this week following that Monday Night stink-bomb against the Ravens, we'd love to meet them.

Joe Namath gets his own Sirius radio show

Posted by Will Brinson

Oddly enough, Joe Namath has managed to become more relevant with the advent of the internet -- from a blog practically dedicated to him (or he and Suzy Kolber anyway ), to Twitter (he managed to draw the attention of Mark Sanchez as well as reporters with his in-game tweets) all the way to online video (if you haven't seen the epic clothes he wears on these clips, you need to watch now ), Broadway Joe hasn't let technology pass him by.

And eventually this paid off, as the New York Post reports he'll get his own show on Sirius XM show with Adam Schein called "The Broadway Blitz" which will debut Friday at 2 PM EST and run weekly.

"I’ve been involved with football a long time and I still get excited about every season like I did when I was lacing up my cleats as a kid in Pennsylvania", Namath said. "I’ve got a lot of wisdom from my time in the NFL and a lot of thoughts about today’s players and teams. It’ll be fun to share them with our listeners and I look forward to hearing what they think as well."

Also: Jets fans -- and Alabama fans too! -- are insane and when Joe starts criticizing the team(s), the fans will tune in and listen to what he has to say, because he's a legend. And then the fans will get frothy about the issues Joe is going after (either foamy for Joe or foamy for the Jets) and he will get lots of listeners and everyone will win.

There's the whole "crazy old man in a tank top and jean shorts going on a rant" factor too; Namath is a smart dude but you don't really know what he's going to say, meaning there's almost a near guarantee that we'll be discussing his comments here at some point in the next few weeks.
