Way back in July, before the 2010 season started (remember the good old days of normal a offseason?), the Titans got a little cheesed off at Lane Kiffin. That's because the brand-new USC coach hired away Titans' running back coach to be the Trojans' new offensive coordinator and didn't give then-coach Jeff Fisher a heads-up.

He was so upset, in fact, that he and the Titans sued USC and Kiffin. And now they've settled that lawsuit, according to a joint statement released by the two parties Wednesday.

"We are pleased to be able to conclude a mutually satisfactory arrangement between the University of Southern California and the Tennessee Titans that concludes the litigation involving the hiring of Kennedy Pola," the Titans and Trojans said in a statement. "The settlement terms are private, but include opportunities for both parties to avoid future disagreements and disputes over employment of persons who are already employed by either party. With this amicable resolution, the Tennessee Titans and the University of Southern California have restored their long-time mutual relationship, and anticipate that the suit will be dismissed within the next few weeks."

Obviously, things were probably a bit awkward, since Fisher is an alumni of the school. That being said, reaching a settlement might have been a touch easier now that Fisher's no longer with the team.

The Titans actually sued Kiffin and the Trojans for "maliciously interfering with the contract" of Pola. At the time we pointed out that it was pretty clear Kiffin -- based on the timing involved -- that Kiffin had been a bit in the wrong with his behavior.

So while the two entities might have a long-term relationship, it stands to reason that the Titans got some sort of compensation for their problems.

A large contingent of NFL players filed suit against the NFL on Friday afternoon, and the NFL has responded by hiring a pair of pretty big legal guns -- David Boies and Paul Clement -- to represent them against the players in the antitrust case.

Clement was the 43rd Solicitor General for the United States from 2005 until 2008 and worked in the Solicitor General's office for seven years. In that time, he argued more than 50 (!) cases in front of the Supreme Court.

Boies represented this fella named Al Gore back in 2000, in a little case (Bush v. Gore) that involved some votes in Florida and had a little to do with who ended up being the 43rd President of the United States of America. That netted him Time's "Lawyer of the Year" award in 2000, as well a runner-up spot in their "Person of the Year" award that year.

Boies also recently scored a $1.3 billion verdict for Oracle, is in the middle of a Constitutional case on same-sex marriages and is on the team of attorneys that's representing Jamie McCourt (wife of Dodgers' owner Frank McCourt) in her divorce proceedings. In short, he's one of the most famous lawyers in the country.

Those two will join Gregg Levy, the NFL's primary outside counsel for over a decade, in representing the NFL against a slew of really famous players.

There is a strong chance you will be seeing their names on a large number of documents filed in Minnesota District Court over the coming months.
