Haynesworth tries to make amends

Sounds like Redskins DL Albert Haynesworth is trying to do some damage control. Is it too little, too late?

The Washington Post reports that Haynesworth has assured the Redskins that he won’t be a distraction. Haynesworth – who reportedly has lost plenty of weight in time for training camp to open – also appears to have accepted the inevitable.

From the story:

Haynesworth, who has returned to the area to prepare for the opening of training camp Thursday, is optimistic about his situation in Washington for the first time in months, said one team source who has spoken with him at length in the past few weeks.

The source said Haynesworth told him he is coming to work and understands he will have to play nose tackle at times in the Redskins' new 3-4 defense.

There is, however, a question about where Haynesworth will reside on the depth chart. Or if coach Mike Shanahan even wants to keep him around this season.

If Maake Kemoeatu, who missed last year with an Achilles injury, is healthy, he could move into that NT role, leaving Haynesworth at the defensive end in the new 3-4 defensive scheme. Haynesworth is not expected to work out with the first-team defense when training camp opens Thursday.
