Falcons 2009 first-round pick Peria Jerry is essentially still waiting to launch his NFL career. Jerry suffered a serious knee injury in his second game last season. His long, arduous recovery will finally culminate with a return to the field Friday night against the Dolphins.
Lining up across from Jerry will be his younger brother, John, Miami’s third-round rookie. The two played together at South Panola High (Mississippi) and at Ole Miss, and plenty of on-field battles have occurred over the years.
"We always went one-on-one, so it’s nothing new," John told Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "It’s just going to be a ballgame. He doesn’t have on the same color I have on, and I don’t have on the same color he has on, so it’s going to be a war. I’m pretty sure he looks at it the same way.”
It’s a big game for both Jerry brothers. Peria is testing his knee and being counted on to spearhead the interior of Atlanta’s offensive line. John is trying to prove that he deserves the starting job coaches have force-fed him.
