So, I'm sitting there on Saturday, working really hard and convincing Mrs. Brinson that yes, I DO need to watch the SEC on CBS because these guys will be playing the pros soon, thank you very much, when who but Peyton Manning, quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts, pops into the booth with Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson.
This wonderful little bit of synergy lit up my eyes brighter than Derek Dooley's pants, especially because Peyton talked about his current rehab process for a neck injury that's sidelines him (and the Colts) for the past few weeks.
"I'm doing well, Verne," Manning said. "I get to do a little more each week. I'm taking it slow, I'm following doctors orders and I'm trying to help out with the team wherever I can.
"It's tough, Verne -- I was telling my minister the other day in our Bible study, it's kinda like I've been giving the sermon for 14 years and now I'm passing out the bulletins. And I'm doing a real good job on giving out these bulletins but it doesn't have a real big impact on the service."
And yes, Gary feels threatened for his job security. He said so himself.
