The Saints have traded left tackle Jammal Brown to the Redskins. Brown was unhappy with his restricted free agent offer in New Orleans and wanted a long-term deal. The Saints were realizing that they’d just won a Super Bowl without the powerful two-time Pro Bowler (Brown missed virtually all of 2009 with a hip and hernia injury).
What’s fascinating is that the Redskins spent the No. 4 overall pick in the draft on Trent Williams. So do they plan to use Brown on the right side? Brown has the skill set to be a dominant right tackle, but you wonder how receptive he’d be to the switch given that he’s looking to make premium left tackle money.
FOX Sport’s Jay Glazer reports that in exchange for Brown, the Saints are receiving a conditional draft pick. Brown’s immediate replacement will be Jermon Bushrod, though second-round rookie Charles Brown will certainly get a close look at some point.
