Pick-Six Podcast: Jaguars coaching search, Suh

Posted by Will Brinson & Ryan Wilson

Tuesday was a weird day if you're an NFL fan. And even weirder if you're a Jaguars fan.

Not only did the team fire Jack Del Rio, but they extended general manager Gene Smith, sold the team, and maybe/sort of/kind of promised not to move out of Jacksonville. We break down what the heck happened, if the Jaguars will stick around, and who's a good candidate to be the next head coach.

Also, we take a look at Ndamukong Suh's suspension (is it fair?), Jake Delhomme's signing (can he save the Texans?), the changes made by the Colts (what happens if you shift a deck chair on the Titantic?) and Kurt Warner's comments to Tim Tebow (he tells him, through words, that actions are better than words).

Pick-6 Podcast: Week 12 Preview

Posted by Will Brinson & Ryan Wilson

It is, as they say, a short week. Week 12 of the NFL season is already three games old, with the Packers, Cowboys and Ravens all winning on Thanksgiving.

On Sunday and Monday, everybody else gets to play and, well, we're here to talk about it.

We quickly hit all the games before Andy Benoit joins the show to discuss whether Andrew Luck or Cam Newton is still a debate, if the Texans can overcome the loss of Matt Schaub, how much trouble the Bears are in, if the Raiders have officially "won" the Carson Palmer trade, if Philly can get back in the hunt, how much Tebowing the Tebows can Tebow against the Chargers on Sunday.

Finally, we wonder if the Giants are going into a full-blown free fall.

(Note: we taped this podcast on Tuesday, before the Broncos made Kyle Orton a free man, so feel free to fast-forward through the parts where we speculate on where he might land since the Chiefs officially claimed him Wednesday.)

Pick-6 Podcast: Thanksgiving Games Preview

Posted by Will Brinson & Ryan Wilson

It took 15 minutes of football for the Patriots offense to get warmed up Monday night, but once they did they made easy work of the Chiefs, who were forced to start journeyman quarterback Tyler Palko.

What does the win mean for New England? In the short term, it puts a little more distance between them and the rest of the AFC East. Taking the longer view, the Patriots have one more "tough" game -- the Eagles in Week 13 -- then it's smooth sailing until the playoffs.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, are in desperate need of a quarterback. Palko lacks arm strength and accuracy, and it's reasonable to think that Kansas City will invite some veterans in to work out.

We also preview the three Thanksgiving Day games: can the Lions upset the Packers? Do the Dolphins really have a chance to beat the Cowboys? And what are we to make of Harbaugh Bowl I?

We talk about that and more. (Also note: we'll be back Friday for a quick rest-of-Week 12 preview podcast. Enjoy the turkey, everybody.)

NFL Week 11 podcast review + MNF preview

Posted by Will Brinson & Ryan Wilson

Week 11 is almost wrapped up and so we take to the airwaves in order to break down the football action from the weekend.

We discuss whether or not the Bears can make the playoffs with Jay Cutler missing, whether the Giants are about to start their annual late-season collapse, if Adrian Peterson's injury matters in the big scheme of things, whether Norv Turner will be fired, if the Redskins are showing life, if the Lions found a running game, if the Dolphins are the hottest team in the NFL.

Then we dive into how bad the Bills are, why no one should pay running backs, if Baltimore is the class of the AFC, if the Eagles can make a playoff run and whether Oakland or Denver is the best in the AFC West.

All that and much, much more, below.

Pick-6 Podcast: Tebowmania, Week 11 previews

Posted by Will Brinson & Ryan Wilson

To paraphrase Jack Byrnes in "Meet the Parents," Tim Tebow is "like an unstoppable rebel force." The latest evidence of that came Thursday night when he led the Broncos on a game-winning drive that ended with a 20-yard touchdown run courtesy of -- you guessed it -- Tebow.

We talk how Tebow managed to make what should've been a pretty boring game must-see, as well as what the loss means for the Jets, who now have the same record (5-5) as the Broncos.

The conversation then turns to Sunday's games.

The Bengals meet the Ravens in Baltimore in a matchup that could go either way. Baltimore found a way to lose to the Seahawks last week (they've perfected the formula for failure and it involves 50 Joe Flacco passes and 5-8 Ray Rice runs), and the Bengals played well against a veteran Steelers team.

The Chargers' season teeters on the brink of disaster as they head to Chicago (and disaster, we predict, awaits), the Panthers face a Lions team that's struggling with their identity, the Vikings host the Raiders in a game Brinson likes Minnesota to win, and the Cowboys should be the latest beneficiaries of the Rex and Becks show in DC.

As always, Paul Bessire of PredictionMachine.com joins the show to break which teams you should pick and why.

Pick-6 Podcast: Week 11 Film Room

Posted by Will Brinson & Ryan Wilson

It's that time of the week again: Eye on Football analyst Andy Benoit joins the podcast to talk about the upcoming NFL action. First up: will the Packers go undefeated? There are a few tough games left on the schedule but Aaron Rodgers is playing a with which we are not familiar.

Other topics:
  • Who's more important to the Cowboys, Tony Romo or DeMarco Murray?

  • Did Mike Smith make the right call last week by going for it on 4th and 1 from his own 29-yard-line in overtime?

  • Was Chris Johnson running all over the Panthers a clear sign that he's finally back?

  • Is it time for the Eagles and Andy Reid to go their separate ways? (Bonus: why is Philly's defense so god-awful?)

  • Can the Cardinals defeat the 49ers a week after beating the Eagles?

  • (Rhetorical question of the day) Are the Ravens running the ball enough, as head coach Jim Harbaugh indicated a day after losing to the Seahawks

  • And finally: how effective will Tim Tebow be against the Jets Thursday night?

NFL Week 10 podcast review

Posted by Will Brinson & Ryan Wilson

Week 10's Sunday action is all wrapped up and that means it's time to fire up the podcast machine.

We wonder why everyone counted out the Patriots, if the Jets can make the playoffs, why the Ravens stink against terrible teams, if the Bears or Lions are the better bet for the wild card, what Mike Smith was thinking in overtime against the Saints, if the Texans are the best team in the AFC, if the Cowboys are in position to overtake the Giants, and much, much more.

Podcast: Week 10 NFL preview, Oakland/San Diego

Posted by Will Brinson & Ryan Wilson

Week 10's gotten started, thanks to Oakland's big win in San Diego, and we break down that game -- the return of Carson Palmer! -- before diving into Week 10's preview podcast.

Are the Bengals capable of upsetting the Steelers at home? Does anyone care about the Eagles-Cardinals game except for Kevin Kolb? Have the Bears improved enough on offense since losing to the Lions last time to move into a tie for second in the NFC North this week? Can we really bank on the Patriots losing three-straight games? Is Chad Ochocinco really the key to beating the Jets this week? Are the Giants overmatched heading out west against San Francisco?

All those questions answered, plus much, much more, below.
