Progress in labor talks?

Is it possible there is some progress in the NFL labor talks?

Progress might be a strong word -- it might even be the wrong word -- but there are indications the talks have gone beyond the finger pointing stage and are now at least into the discussion stage.

"We're finally seriously discussing the issues," said a source with knowledge of the talks.

The way the source put it: over the past few months negotiations were pointless because both sides refused to see the other's position. Mediation may have softened -- slightly, very slightly-- the razor sharp edge off the previously heated discussions and now there is actual communication.

But the source expressed great caution saying mediation can rarely solve labor issues as complex as these. The source would not provide any details of what's happening in mediation. My guess: the talks will still drag well into the spring.

But there's hope. A little. A smidge. A tiny, little smidge.
