A) their salary cap will not allow them to keep him or cut him, they MUST fix their situation and trading Revis is the easiest to get that started.
So now you have to find a team that can absorb Revis cap hit AND have the future money to sign him long term.
Dawg -

Doesn't matter if they trade him, cut him, he retires or he gets hit by a bus. The instant he's not on the roster all the prorated bonuses come due ($9M). A trade doesn't help them cap wise. It just gets them some value for a guy that is probably going to walk after 2013. Now if they trade after June 1st some of that could be pushed to 2014 but the most economical thing to do is to keep him. He's a $9M cap hit on the team, $12M if he's not on the team (prior to June 1).

As for the trading partner the 1st issue is easy. He's due $6M in 2013 - which is very affordable. The future money as you point out is the real issue because that will have to be worked out before a deal is done. I would say thanks, but no thanks simply because of the injury. You just don't know how he's going to respond.

Looking through the Jets glasses the only positive I see from trading him, other than the compensation is that he'll be off the books for 2014 completely. The team is so screwed cap wise and has so many free agents that need re-signed they could be the worst team in the NFL next year anyway. At least they'd get a fresh start in 2014.

p.s. If he were to get by a bus I actually think there is a way for the team to apply for some cap relief so I might have gone overboard on that one. Laughing

Thanks beach and:

Happy Birthday!!

I thought they could transfer that bonus money to the new team...which would give them cap relief...my mistake.

LBG, Art Modell sucks! Plenty of appropriate places for the "Modell" sympathizers to co-miserate.  I would think the freakin DPL would be about the last place to ever come run that horsechit. You had to know that wasn't going to be a popular stance...  And don't act liked that fat basterd was so noble. Bottom line: He got a better stadium deal in a different city.  So he uprooted a cornerstone franchise in this league and broke the hearts of millions of loyal supporters...There was such backlash that it forced the NFL to promise the city of Cleveland a new team upon completion of the new stadium (one that was in the works for Art anyway), and also forced that fat phuque to leave it all behind!  Not sure if you are aware of this, but that is unprecedented in the history of proffessional franchise moves.......All the records. All the incredible team history, and most importantly, the colors!  EVERYTHING.  He had to leave it behind in the faithfull city that supported his team with an absolute passion for all those years...If he ever gets in the HoF, then the HoF loses all credibility in my book...He gave up the HoF when he took the $$$$ and ran to Baltimore.  That trumps any and all good he ever did for this league......

Cleveland will be better. The team needs to have an attitude change starting from the top down. PUNCH THOSE BOYS IN THE MOUTH, AND MAKE THEM SCREAM FOR THEIR MAMMYS IN A BITCH VOICE!!!!

I don't think the younger guys get it.  I'm sure it's because the Browns have been a joke for an entire generation...

Oh well...All we can do is hope Jimmy, Joe and Chud know what the hell they are doing.  It's long past due for Browns fans.   Ya can't really blame these younger guys for "not" getting it....All they've ever known the Browns to be is a laughing stock.  They have NO idea what it's like when the Browns are rockin...If this team ever starts winning, fans will be coming out of the woodwork like nobody has ever seen.

When I was kid, the most comparable team to the modern day Browns was the New Orleans Saints.   They were just awful. They couldn't get out of their own way for like decades.  I'm pretty sure it was Saints fans that first put the brown paper bags on their heads....Anyway, the point is, all things are cyclical.  Aside from a major bounty fiasco Laughing, the Saints are widely considered a pretty good team these days.....I really feel the Browns, under the new ownership group, are finally getting it together.  This team has been built up properly, through the draft, and now they just need to learn how to win games.  The new coaching staff has me thinking that this is going to happen very soon...Lord knows this franchise and their faithfull have paid their dues.....

"Get that" Art had everything to do with the Browns leaving Cleveland...and get that he will NEVER be forgiven.   If you feel sorry for his financial position at the time, and you want to defend him, then that is your perogitive.  Just don't expect it to be a popular take here in the DPL, that's all....We all know the mayor and the "powers that be" in Cleveland,  phuqued up too...

Ok, let's a couple things straight.

1. I never said I felt sorry for anyone..least of all AM.
2. I didn't even "defend" him.  I looke at all the pieces of what happened objectively and come up with the lion's share of the blame resting at the feet of the politicians.

And why must there be some sort of "reason" for disagreement?  When you say it must be people's age (or whatever) all you're doing is marginializing them.  Why not just take what is said/viewed/believed, accept it, respect it, and simply agree to disagree?

There is no reason(s) other than what I gave for my view of "The Move".  Period.

lol.  Just trying to calm the waters rubu...It's a tired old arguement that is still gnawing at Browns fans.   I hate Art Modell, and I'm always going to.  They (NFL) made Art leave everything behind for a reason rubu.  It was a phuquin travesty!  No matter how you want to slice it.  That team was loyally supported through thick and thin, by the most passionate "football crazed" fan base on the planet...Browns fans desrved better.  Thats all there is to it...People say, "oh well, the poor Baltimore fans had the same thing happen to them back in the 80's when the Colts moved to Indy"....My ass!!!  Those supposed rabid Colts fans weren't supporting the team for chit.  At least Irsay had that!  The fans didn't care.  They couldn't sell half the tickets available. Old Memorial Stadium was a joke towards the end of that run....Not the same as the Cleveland situation in any way shape or form..

Win or lose, Browns fans always supported that team....When the Browns left town for a better deal for Art, it was the biggest travesty in the history of sports.

I agree 100%.

Not to be too cynical of politicians but perhaps that is what they were angling for all along.  Run Art out and get the NFL owners to build that new stadium ;)

Hey, it's possible.

No matter how you want to slice it.  That team was loyally supported through thick and thin, by the most passionate "football crazed" fan base on the planet...Browns fans desrved better.

Again, I agree 100%.  The above statement should make you "hate" and blame the city officials even more.   The Cavs and Indians could be set on fire for all most fans cared so long as the Browns were A) in Cleveland and B) competitive.

Words can't hardly describe what an outdated POS old Municipal was.  The team litterally died there.

When the Browns left town for a better deal for Art, it was the biggest travesty in the history of sports.

Nah, think Marshall it beat Surprised

But it's definately right up there near the top ;)

Thats just it rubu...The city catered to the Tribe and the Cavs first because they feared that those were the franchises most likely to skip town.  Who could blame them?  We were going to lose pro baseball and basketball! Nobody feared the Browns leaving because those games were always sell outs. Dawgs were everywhere!  You couldn't find a ticket to a Browns game back then. At the same time, you couldn't give away Cavs or Indians tics...All our pro sports teams needed new homes, but the Browns were the only one being supported.  To me, it made sense to try and save the Cavs and Indians first.  No way were the Browns going to leave!  Obviously it was a miscalculation.  Modell took it to heart, when he shouldn't have.  It was never anything personal against the Browns...They were getting ready to take care of them next.

It's all just ugly, but it's history... I get the feeling Browns fans are going to finally have something to cheer about very soon.

I think those Price/Dougherty/Nance teams did pretty well actually.  But yeah, they may have lost them...or not.

To me, it made sense to try and save the Cavs and Indians first.  No way were the Browns going to leave!

Soooooo.............why all the hate towards Art then?

 Obviously it was a miscalculation.

"Ha, what's he going to do...leave?!! lolololo!!"  "Art?  Art?  Anyone seen Art?" - politicians

They were getting ready to take care of them next.

Should have been FIRST.   He said over and over and over again that he couldn't wait.

Now, all this being said I'm laying most of the blame at the city's doorstep because I understand the reality of publically build stadiums.  Mostly, they're losers for the tax-payer.........and I hate it with a passion!!  They should all be privately owned and opporated (like what's happening in LA).
