I am surprised no one has even considered the possibility of bringing in LaRondo McClain.  He was just released by the Oakland Raiders.  It seems through one article that he should probably clear waivers.  That of course would leave us not having to waste a valuable pick when someone else would become readily available. He was set to make about $4 million this year and 5 the next.  There have been questions about his head space, but the guy is still very relatively young. He has had a major run-in with the law, but other than that he has only been popped with tinted windows as far as I know.  He was a hell of a linebacker at the University of Alabama.  I have pretty good confidence in Ray Horton in leading him down the straight an dnarrow path.  Well as straight as you can lead an adult professional football player.  We have a pressing need at linebacker.  I think in the right situation MClain could flourish if he would get his head out of his proverbial backside.  We have a strong coaching staff and hopefully we are trending upwards.  If we could get him and not have him be "the man" to have to take on the entire defensive responsibilities ni the backfield, IMO he could be a valuable asset.  Then we wouldn't necessarily have to get more thna one LB in a later round.  Unless of course they were to get a healthy Jarvis Jones.  Even if we didn't go with Jarvis Jones (assuming Milliner to be off the board)  I have elevated the beast Mingo from Louisiana State University as my secondary or tertiary target (depending on Miliner).  Mingo is a guy you could plug in Day One and go about your business.  He is capable of playing either Defensive End or OLB.  Quite frankly I might even easily bump him up to second behind Miliner as the best defensive prospect out there.  Of course that is just one guy's opinion, but I have seen enough of his games personally and film of him to be convinced he is a big difference maker.  Ansah would round out my top four, and that is only if we trade down.  They say Ansah has more "potential" than Mingo long-term, but as I said Mingo is ready to roll tomorrow as he has more experience playing the actual game of football.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Browns are "close" to signing free agent David Nelson.

Nelson indicated on Twitter Monday that he's nearing a deal, and the Plain Dealer likely confirmed it with Nelson's agent. The oversized slot receiver is recovering from an ACL tear. He visited Browns headquarters late last week. Related: [Browns]

I just read here on CBS that Colt McCoy said the focus of the 49ers to win now. Different from the Browns. What do you faithful think of that? Since afterall this is the forever rebuild. This team is not even a .500 club. 13 years of wasted picks. I wonder if they even wanted to win? I think people are still just happy they are back. I mean we all know Lerner made a boat load of cash off all us. So will Haslem. But will he create a winning culture? All Lerner did was embarass the fan base. Made this team the laughing stock of the NFL. Randy didnt care if this team won or not. As long as the register kept ringing.

Well, if being IN the SB isn't winning something, then I don't. I mean, at the end of the regular season, it's a crapshoot until the SB  pair is determined, and even then no one knows because it's a mistake here and there that often determines a winner. I believe the teams are usually fairly equal so SF is really a winner already.  But if McCoy says their goal is to win then that's what it is. He'll be severely disappointed if the 49ers don't get to the SB in the coming season.

Not much is being said by anyone in connection with the [presence of FBI] and IRS agents at the headquarters of Pilot Flying J, the company founded by the father of Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and, after an absence of several months, run once again by Browns owner Jimmy Haslam.

Specifically, the Browns’ official position on the situation is this:  “No comment.”

Via WBIR-TV, Pilot Flying J has issued the following statement:  “As of the afternoon of April 15, FBI officials have [sequestered the Pilot Flying J headquarters] on Lonas Drive in Knoxville.  At this time, we do not know the nature of the situation.  Pilot Flying J is cooperating fully with the authorities.  Pilot Food Marts, Pilot Travel Centers and Flying J Travel Plazas remain open and continue to serve the public.  Pilot Flying J is confident that the matter will be resolved fully.”

Federal officials have characterized the action as part of an “ongoing investigation” involving the FBI and IRS.
