If the NBA didn't let more than half of the teams into the playoffs than the "asterisk" advocators might have a point.  But since playing an additional 20 meaningless games wouldn't have mattered much, there should absolutely be no asterisk with the Heat's title.

RealDeal, when will you finally come out of the closet and claim your thrown as the Heats king fan instead of settling on being the "Kings" personal cheerleader...?

I still remember when the Spurs got a title in a short season and said the same about them.  they made everyone forget about it with other titles.  we will see if the Heat can do the same thing. (bball master)

They played only 60% of the games in the Spurs lockout season.

They played 80% of the games last year. Funny thing is most people rather see the NBA go to a 65-70 game schedule because most feel like the season is too long.

80>60 and that is a big difference.

punchline, it's weird...for some reason, Heat fans love trolling on this thread...for the life of me, I still don't understand why!  And yet, you've come back for a taste as well...amazing!

Both were the result of a lockout shortened season.  If the league were to somehow mandate that the regular season be reduced by X number of games, that'd be one thing...but that wasn't the case in '99 and wasn't the case in '12...hence the stigma of the * asterisk.

Something tells me if the Lakers won the title you wouldn't say a word about asterisk.

As JD said they didn't shorten the playoffs did they? Titles are not won in the regular season. The regular season means nothing for top teams like the Heat, OKC, LAC, CHI, & SAS. All they use the regular season for is to get a good seed to make a run for the finals when the real season start at the end of April.

Whether they play 50, 66, or 82 games everyteam start the playoffs at 0-0 and the first team to 16 is crowned champ.

Of course they didn't shorten the playoffs, that's not the point...the point is that we're talking about the Miami Heat, who like the Spurs before them in '99, need to consolidate their asterisk, lockout shortened season * championship with another one in a real, normal season in order to make everyone, including Heat Fan (who said, "it'd be great to get one in a full season") feel better about the whole thing because of the relative newness of winning titles, given the respective franchises in question. If the Lakers had won it in '12 it wouldn't have been such a big deal, because they have 16 other banners hanging in their rafters, but because we're talking about the "Yes.We.Did", "...not two, not three, not four, not five, not six...not seven", "Three Kings" led Miami Heat...well...you can understand the scrutiny and why it's a significant point of contention.

LOL this is so retarded. The 16 championships they woun would have had absolutely nothing to do with them winning a title in a 66 game season. Stop beating around the bush and just admit if the Lakers would have won you wouldn't consider it a asterisk because that's your team. Matter of fact if the Heat lost in the finals I can guarantee you wouldn't have considered it an asterisk for OKC either.

"Three Kings" led Miami Heat...well...you can understand the scrutiny and why it's a significant point of contention.
Point of contention to who? Heat haters and Reggie Evans?

It is not a point of contention to neutral NBA fans and it is not a point of contention to most logical lakers fans (basically all except Jefe and swoman)

Punchline, you keep missing the point...which is that the Heat's 2012 * title is stigmatized by virtue of the fact that it exists as the first and, so far, the only one won by this "Yes.We.Did" version of your fledgling Miami franchise. And, until you can consolidate it with a other one won in a normal season, it'll remain stigmatized. This is why the prospect of "One And Done" is so profoundly tantalizing for us Heat Haters!

Because it's retarded comments like these that have caused me as well as thousands of others to go from having no care in the world about the Heat and LeBron, to now constatntly having to try and talk sense into ignorant fans of other teams.  Because the Lakers have the biggest following on here, it's primarily coming from the Lakers fans.  Now, from having taking the Heat and LeBron's side for about 2 years now, I hope they do keep winning just to shut up the nay-sayers.

Does thinking like this cause you pain?  It should.  Nothing Miami can do will make me feel any different about last years title.    We won the title.  Period.   How many of the Laker titles came in 82 game seasons?   Not even half.   How many came after winning 16 playoff games?   Get out of here with this BS.

the relative newness of winning titles?   What does that matter at all?   Wether it's their 15th title or 2nd.. a championship is a championship.   All the teams voted on playing that schedule.. including your Lakers.   Every team agreed on the rules, Miami beat them all.

So because Miami talked some trash and had a huge celebration, there title doesnt count.  okay gotcha.

I know youre in LA.  But can you give me a sneak preview as to what youre going to say next year after Miami wins it again?   Will you blame the refs?  Maybe say the commish needed Lebron to win it to help market the league?   Give me a sneak preview,,

I think the point here is, if you can't win more than 1 with this group and the one you do win is in a shortened season, it looks pretty weak...there leaves an opening especially after losing the year prior in a full season that the Heat won because of extreme circumstances...(short season) and RealDeal...except it bro...you not only defend Bronny anymore but the Heat as well, a rival team in your conference... RealDeal = Heat fan... How long did it take you to come clean to TopTen, do you really want to drag this out too...? Just embrace it, it will feel better...

i think this pretty much sums it up, ESPECIALLY after all the hype and everything. i keep looking at the scheme of things and this in general

(the title "output") will me matched up historically to what other great teams have done. and i agree with wlk, if it's only 1 O'Brien in a strike shortened season then it's gonna make for a VERY small blip on the historical radar so to speak...

Still the defending champ and NBA finalists the past two years, it feels good now.  Compare to LAL getting beat up in the 2nd rounds both time, it's good to be Heat's fans.

Well, at least getting to the 2nd rounds were still bigger accomplishments for the mighty Lakers comparing to this year.   In this season, they will be lucky to make the playoff.  Even if they do they will get beat up in the 1st round.

How could a team with so much talents, the largest payroll, biggest fanbase and so much history failed 3 consecutive seasons - and counting?

Go Heat.
