So I got an e-mail with a link to CBS's free version of the playoff challenge (though you still can't find it by looking around the site), but I think for us that ship has sailed.

Well, Lynch + Gresham turned out better than AP + Daniels, but it was close.

Looks like there are about 320,000 entries. Nobody got the ideal lineup of Flacco, Wilson, Foster, Lynch, Boldin, Jenkins, Daniels, Graham, and Packers, which would have netted 153.

Ranked 6134 out of 320,000. I'd say we're doing good so far.

It was too late to save my QB rankings, but what we saw yesterday was the reason I had RGIII down at #25 - I figured he'd get hurt (because he runs so much), Shanahan would leave him out there longer than he should, and he'd miss half a dozen games. (And of course I also didn't think he'd be quite as good as he turned out to be.)

Ironic that you mention this. Will, because I was just thinking about some of these new NFL era QB's as we head into the 2013 fantasy season.

I'm sure there is a huge following for RG3, Newton, Kaepernick, and Wilson. QB's that can beat you with their arm and legs.

One of the knocks on Vick was that because of the way he played, he was nearly gauranteed to miss a few play or even a few games. That has to be a concern for these guys too.

I know that ALL quarterbacks run the risk of missing plays/games. But I would imagine that the risk is higher for these "new" era guys. And we got a glimse of that with RG3.

I'd factor in two things here - build, and rushing attempts per game.

RGIII - 8.0 attempts per game + a wiry build = big trouble
Cam - 7.9 attempts per game + a big thick body (and a thick head) = extra FF points
Vick - 6.2 attempts per game + a smaller build = trouble
Wilson - 5.9 attempts per game + a smaller build = trouble (but he seems smarter than some of the others about his runs)
Kapernick - 4.8 attempts per game + pretty wiry himself = trouble
Luck - 3.9 attempts per game + solid build + smart running = a few extra FF points
Ponder - 3.8 attempts per game + mediocre passing = meh
Locker - 3.7 attempts per game (see Ponder)
Rodgers - 3.4 attempts per game + solid build + smart running = a missed game every couple of years
.
.
.
Brady 1.4 attempts, Peyton 1.4 attempts, and Brees 0.9 attempts = excellent chance at playing all 64 quarters

Freeman's a big, thick dude, too, but this year his rushing attempts were down by almost half... and he had his best fantasy season.

Totally agree, Will. Nice work compiling the rushing attempts.

I think I'd still rather have a pocket passer. But with more teams going to the spread offense, elite pocket passers will be at a premium.

Just shooting from the hip here, but I think that some of Newton's best games - from a fantasy perspective - were losses for Carolina. And some of his less stellar outings - when he involved the Panthers "team" - were wins. Talk about yin and yang. Play as a selfish superstar and lose, or play as a team and win.

Good point Will..............smarter with his runs and seems pretty stocky to me. I wouldn't think he would be that big of an injury risk. With that said not so sure I drink the Kool-Aid next year. Caps is the guy I'll target with a later round pick.

I didn't check - but I've noticed that's true about a lot of QBs. Down big late, go crazy against a loose D. I remember Rivers doing that a lot in losses in previous years.

I figure QB ADP will be something like this next year:

Rodgers/Brees/Brady (late first and second)
Peyton/RGIII (third)
Ryan/Wilson/Kap/Cam/Stafford (fourth to sixth)
Romo/Dalton/Eli/Luck/Vick/Rivers (there for the taking late)

It'll be a crazy year for QBs. I'm not sure the "new-era QBs" will have the same success, because I think stopping guys like that will be the Manhattan Project for a lot of defensive coordinators this year... especially those in the NFC West and South (where Kap, Wilson and Cam all play, and those two divisions play each other in 2013 if I'm not mistaken).

And the best way to stop them, unfortunately, is a punishing hit when they run the ball.
