I've read the entire book of Revelation and it's very interesting.  If I'm not mistaken it says the end times will come when when people accross the world can instantly communicate with each other.  It also talks about the end times being when the beast wants to form a 'one world government'.

We already know that this is happening from what David Rockefeller revealed in his autobiography.

For more than a century, ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents such as my encounter with Castro to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. IMO the book of revelation could have been written by someone with a gigantic intellect.  It is possible to predict the future from knowing human nature alone.  This person would have been smarter than me, an ultra-genius who not only was able to see decades into the future, but a whopping 2 millennium into the future.

Most of revelations is copy and pasted from the old testament books of Isaiah, Ezra, Ezekiel, and probably most prodominantly Daniel. Like most of the new testament......it's lifted from a Jewish script and given a Christian polish.

The rest of it is just angrily written letters to churches in Asia Minor.

It ends with the most self-contradictory rambling view of the apocalypse I've ever read, and one likely to make Fellini jealous.

Anyone who has studied scripture for purely educational purposes can tell that revelations was written by a Jew that was pissed off at the Romans. Even the whole mark of the beast thing is more of a reference to anyone not accepting the Roman Empire not being able to business anywhere the empire existed. It's basically a really poorly written poem.

Most of it is unoriginal and heavily borrowed from the much earlier book of Daniel. It's virtually incompatible with the rest of the new testament......never mentions the holy trinity, original sin, baptism, or the Eucharist. Most of the book is actually very Pagan. Christ is born in heaven and his mother is wearing the sun while the moon are her feet and she has a crown of stars.

The writer is gleeful when he mentions that Babylon (The Roman Empire) will fall and most of humanity will burn. He is writing a hate letter to a people he has a serious distaste for.

Like the old testament Daniel, revelations predicts a Jewish golden age.

It's full of second-hand imagery and much of is focused on what was happening in the world when it was written. The seven kings that get mentioned are a reference to the Emperors of Rome. Nero is cryptically refered to many times. Because, this was written by a guy pissed off at the Romans and wanting to see them die. Not a guy looking towards the future. A lot of scholars have proposed that it was written by Jewish Egyptian Cerinthus, a known heretic and possibly the author of the Gospel of John as well.

Like most of the new testament, it's written for it's day, not for the days to come. It predicts the future about as well as Nostradamus did. Because when you use allegory and you are purposely abstruse......your words can be twisted to mean anything the reader wants it to.

It's important to note that Revelations was rejected by early Christians as the ravings of a man not in line with their own doctrine. It was accepted at the council of Carthage but still argued over for years after that. The only benefit it brings is fear, a common theme in Christian teachings.

It's basically a book of crap with no real basis or meaning today.

But you don't have to read the book of revelations, or even believe it, to know how f*cked the world economy is going to get.  We're only now starting to see the currency wars.  The next great war has likely already begun.  And we started it.

A guy wrote a book sometime around 66AD that dealt with things that would happen over 1500 years after his death? Or a guy wrote a book dealing with things that were happening around him at the time he was alive?

I'm gonna be logical and assume scenario B is correct.

It's really no different than the gospels. Go to church and your priest or pastor is going to read from the gospel and say how there are predictions that Jesus is gonna come back to Earth at some point in the future. Read the gospels for yourself and it's pretty clear the men who wrote them were talking about their present day and Jesus coming back during their own lifetime. It's very clearly written. Yet every good Christian still thinks the big guy is coming back. I wouldn't stand around waiting, if I were they. Jesus has stood up more dates than any man in history.

Revelation never said Israel would be a state. It was simply noted that the twelve tribes os Israelites would be revealed and return. It even noted how many men would be in each tribe.

There is a very good chance that many of the current residents of Israel are not even descended from the twelve tribes. Scholars have debated where the real descendents of the twelve tribes can be on earth today. Some may be the Jews that have settled in Israel. Some could be in Africa or even America. The Mormons tend to believe they are the lost tribe. But that's a story for another day.

A generation is 25 years by most estimations so we've been through over two since Israel became a state. Where are the end times?

Can't say global famine is a sign of the end times.........there has been famine around the globe since time unknown.

Wars? No........there is always a war somewhere in the world every friggin year man has walked the earth. The wars get worse over time because we get better at making weapons. That is technology advancing, not a sign of the end times?

Climate shift? Far from the first time that has happened. Poverty? No, been there and done that. World leaders involved in conspiracy against their citizens? That story is about as old as the garden of Eden.

No evidence to suggest we live in the end times. None. We just happen to live in a time that kinda sucks. But every human who ever lived could make that claim.

Man's biggest dream is to believe he is special. It's also his biggest weakness. We aren't special. No more so than any of our ancestors were. We are born, we live, and we die. Some just last longer than others.

There is always war, famine, poverty, conspiracy, murder, hate, prejudice, sex, gay sex, disease, backstabbing, and any other negative human thing you can think of. It's always there. Every second of every day. We only think it is worse in our generation because we're living in it. But you're no different than any other man in history, nor am I. We will all someday die. And the world will keep spinning once we're gone. The sun will continue to rise and wake man up, at least until the day it burns out. Then man is screwed. But we won't be here to see it.

The worldwide communication is an interpretation of comments in revelations about the two witnesses being killed by the beast and all the world being there to see it.

But, the book itself isn't exactly literal. It's full of symbolism and alegory. It has to be. Any books written at that time and throughout much of history were because of the fear of persecution. The Roman Empire wasn't very friendly to Christians and Jews in Nero's time. That is why Nero is not referred to by name but rather by numerology. Neron Caesar is the 666 relevations talks about. Anyone trying to read it literally is doomed for failure.

The one world government.......is very simply the Roman Empire. It was one of the biggest Empire's in history at it's time. It took up over 4% of the surface of the globe. Not much by today's standards............but a whole heck of a lot if you were a guy living in Greece in 66AD when the average person didn't realize how big the globe was and really didn't travel very far.

If you were in the Empire.......the Empire was all you saw. You couldn't do business without the Roman seal (the mark of the beast) and you had to do as the Empire said.

If you try to interpret it from today's standards, you won't see much. Put yourself in the shoes of an early Christian not happy with the Empire and it looks quite a bit different.

It says that an army of 200 million from the east will cross a dried up Euphrates river to fight in the battle of armageddon.  It wasn't until recently that China could field an army of 200 million because of their ever-growing population of 1.3+ billion.

The Euphrates used to be a powerful river in Iraq until recently when it was dammed in Turkey.  Now the water flow has been reduced by about 80% and it's drying up.

A generation according to the bible is how long someone lives.  For example, joshua lived 110 years.  But as I understand it, it's also not described as a set time; it's described as the span of time from birth until death.

It's the same with many parts of the bible in general.  But in this case it's hard to tell what's literal and what isn't.  So by the usage of occam's razor, taking things like '200 million army' and a 'dried up Euphrates' literally would be making the fewest assumptions possible.  That is, again, if the translations can be trusted.
