2012-2013 NY Knicks Official Season Thread

October 3, 2012 9:14 am

Here is what I think the starters should be and the bench:

PG: Felton
SG: R Brewer
SF: Anthony<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;">
PF: STAT
C: Chandler

Bench:

JR Smith
Kidd
Camby
Novak

I think that should be our rotation, I like Smith coming off the bench to provide some instant offense. I like have Brewer solidly defend and pass on the scoring to one of our scorers. With Brewer defending the best guard on the other team and Chandler Anchoring, it provides a good defensive mindset along with the offensive mindset of both Anthony and Stat. If these two have improved at all defensively, watch out, this could get interesting. I'd like to see at times Camby and Chandler in the game at the same time. Once Shumpert returns, I'd like for him to be reinserted into the starting lineup and have Brewer and he rotate in at the 2. With Felton and Kidd rotating in at the 1, having JR be our Utility guy who will be our 6th man rotating in at either the 2-3.

Alright Knicks fans, crickets on this thread.....Foot in mouth

Here's what I think.

I like your starters, but I think we have to start Carmelo at the 4. I think that is his best chance to to get mismatches. My problem with my own idea is who to put at the three spot. Now here is my reasoning. I rather split Carmelo and Stat up, a second line of Kidd running the pick and roll with Stat, and outside shooters Novak and Smith would be deadly (at the 2 and 3). And put Camby with them for defensive purposes. So my first line would then be Felton/ Shump (when he returns)/ Brewer/ Carmelo/ and Tyson.

I also don't understand why we have so many players on the roster and are still looking for more. The rotation should be no more than 10!

It's definitely going to be an interesting year!  Right now it's hard to balance the Knicks with the Yankees and Giants, but I'm beyond excited that NY basketball is relevant again.

Splitting Melo and Amare is a great idea but player ego's would probably get in the way.  Hopefully the Celtics drop to the bottom of the conference and Wade become a step or two slower on his shaky knees.  I don't see any reason why this team can't aim for the 2nd seed in the East.

I agree with splitting Amare and Melo up as much as possible. They are going to have to play together a lot anyway but I would bring Amare off the bench and then spell them at different times.

Thanks to those that have replied. Waiting on the rest of the Knicks fans to show up and start commenting. We can't be the only ones excited about the year.

I don't like the idea of having STAT come off of the bench. I also don't like the idea of Smith starting. I think Smith coming in should be a spark and he can come in at either the 2 or 3. I do however want to see at times during the game where Amare and Melo are not together, such as a team that looks like:

Kidd
Smith
Brewer
STAT
Chandler

or

Kidd
Felton
Melo
Camby
Chandler

We needd to get Shump healthy and then I would like to see

Felton
Shump
Mello
Camby
Chandler

Our bench
Kid
Smith
Novak
Thomas
Stat

Brewere and Copland can spell people in fould trouble.  With Camby and Chandler in the starting 5 it will help our defensive pressance and Mello will actually be a better defender with two legitimate shot blockers behind him in the post for help D.

I think Stat will do more damage at the 5.

Wow, Novak 7-7 in three pointers against the Wizards last night. Man I could see a all out scoring squad in and an all defensive squad, here's my all scoring squad:

Kidd
Smith
Melo
Novak
STAT

All defensive squad:

Shumpert
Brewer
Melo
Camby
Chandler

Woodson has some serious options this year.

As two posters said - love the idea fo Melo at the pf playing with Chandler. But you have to start Stat. He'll tear up the clubhosue if he isn't starting. It will then wear on the team. Last 4 minutes of game use Melo at the pf in tight games.

Damn.  I love Stat but you're probably right.  Maybe he has figured out how to play with Mello and Chandler.  Is is just me or did Chandler show more explosiveness than Stat last year?  Maybe he just wasn't fully healthy.  The pick and Roll with Chandler was super effective while Stat just wasn't dunking on eveyone like he did when he first got here.  Again, maybe he just wasn't healthy.

Problem of Stat and Melo co-existing has been solved....courtesy of Stats old man Knees.  Are we in for a long painful season????  I really want to say this is a #3 seed playoff team, but I just don't know

I'm thinking we're in for a rough ride this year, Looking at our roster, gotta say we aint that good. Carmelo Anthony will again have to score a ton of point to be effective. Raymond Felton will help, Jason Kidd will contribute here and there. I think we've already seen the best of Amar'e Stoudemire we are gonna get, it's all down hill from here. Kurt Thomas, Marcus Camby and Rasheed Wallace can't be counted on for too much. So where do we get point from when Melo doesn't score in bunches. They better keep Copeland on the squad

JR Smith and Steve Novak are pretty goos scorers no? Plus we get Shump back at some point. I think the flow of the ball and defense are the biggest factors in being good or being great. Kidd and Felton should do a good job setting up the offense....its the defense Im worried about. Again.

I agree with e love. Our 2nd unit will score (most nights). Kidd running the point (or Prigioni), Novak, Smith will be better than most benches. Throw in Camby to rebound and defend and leave either Amare or Carmelo on the floor at the 4. Thats a good 2nd unit. Here is my major concern, I don't think our "top end" talent is as good as other teams. Our guards can not match up with many teams as far as talent. But I don't care what anyone says, I will take our front line over almost anybody (I said almost). I really believe it is our bench that will determine most games. I really think they will pull ahead over most team's second units.......but we can only wait and see.

If Prigioni and Kidd can be healthy- and if Prigioni shows he can paly which he has shwioed thus far, then w'eve got a real good ballclub on oru hands. It means Melo will gets lost of oportuntites to score but not as much in isolations which is what you want.

But if we lsot Chandler for nay lenght of time, we are in HUGE HUGE trouble. He has to be healthy.

I know this is random but I wanted to write it somewhere. In regards to that excuse of an analyst, Charles Barkley spewed his latest Knick bashing...Barkley is just a spiteful and bitter idiot...He rips on the Knicks like a 3rd grader with total bias and no real insight whatsoever. He'd find some way to criticize the Knicks if they won the title..oh and I don't recall "Sir Charles" ever winning one either. He should just shut up and be glad TNT is giving him a paycheck for doing nothing.

Yes they are, but Smith is streaky and Novack is one dimensional. By the time Shump comes back in February things might be out of hand, not to mention where do you play him ? Tyson Chandler left on crutches yesterday, uh-oh. Wallace & Camby haven't played yet, Kurt Thomas is 40, Amar'e is out...again. Who's gonna rebound and block shots ? Knicks are my team regardless, I just wish we didn't take the locks off the old folks home. Prigioni can play though, he's the baby 35

riggsez- it'shard to ignroe him but youhave to try. The guy is a comeplte idiot. That entireTNT show is made up of three idiots.

If you ever get a chance watch the fourth quarter of 1994-1995. IMO charles Barkley single-handely blew the series. he hurt his hamstiring in fourth qtr, Kevin Johnsons thepg was on fire - Barkleyonthe other hand couldn't elevate to score. He get rebounds but couln't score. The susncouldn't stop Houston at the other end, and KJ woul score for Suns. Anytime KJ would miss, Suns would call a titmeout, Barkleywould storm to the bench it loked liek he was inssitignhe get teh ball. After tiemouts he'd get teh ball andcouldn't score.

Heblew opportunites for hsi team becuase he was an idiot. Nothing has changed.

What a great team performance! Winning in the way we did, with a smothering defense was amazing. Melo led his team from the start, and our shooting was lights out from behind the arc. To do what we did against Miami's defense was astonishing. The Heat rarely lose by more that 10pts.

Let's keep this momentum going!
